Yves du Parc, Vice President and General Manager of Beijing Sideways, sized my helmet and adjusted my lap belt in the side car of his “Chang Jiang,” literally "The long River" motor bike. He then took my photo, hopped onto his seat, turned the ignition key, and we were off. Although I had traveled through Beijing many times in the back seat of a taxi, this was a new experience, in-fact my first ever motorcycle experience!

Austin, Texas-    What can you say about a town that has a Nightclub sign stating: “3 Floors, 2 Patios, Fireplace, COME DRINK”, and another on a deserted parking lot wall proclaiming, “Music saved my Black-Hearted Soul”? It is almost 3,500 square feet of pure delight: filled with half-a-MILLION books and Book accessories, and if that weren’t enough, many other strange and wonderful things that you never KNEW that you needed, but for which you have been desperately searching for YEARS.

Zurich is one of those magnificent cities centered in the heart of Switzerland and Europe. It is a major worldwide transportation gateway. Rather than transiting through, I encourage you to plan a one or two day visit to this enchanting city!  

We return to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls time and again because the area has so much to offer. It’s all the stuff we like to do – outdoor, natural splendor, and touristy. We revisited several favorites and added some new experiences, too. The weather was perfection, and it’s a gorgeous ride cruising Niagara Parkway. The drive is dotted with islands of flowers and fountains, and the profusion of colors is simply wondrous. Walking paths alongside disappear invitingly into lush woods, and the air is clean and crisp.

Geneva is a Swiss city located on the south shore of Lake Geneva.  Many of its’ 200,000 inhabitants are foreigners and also hosts numerous International Organizations, including UN headquarters, Red Cross and CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research – the world’s largest particle physics laboratory).  It is also a major international financial centre, known for privacy banking laws.

As pet-friendly travel becomes more and more common we can expect the trend to even move to the cruise lines.  A 2005 court ruling requires all cruise lines to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act which opens the door to allow trained service pets to accompany their disabled owners on cruises. This is a start towards more open acceptance of pets on cruises.

Susie and Beau are ready to celebrate National Dog Day next Tuesday, August 26, 2014. Of course around them, every day is dog day, but they love having a day of recognition where the importance of dog adoption and placement is emphasized.

Toronto is an amazing, exciting, cosmopolitan city and for those of you that are lovers of art, I suggest you spend at least a couple of nights at the Gladstone Hotel in the Queen Street West area. It is a boutique hotel with 37 rooms, all designed by local artists - each one is designed by a different artist. The rooms tend to be on the small side and they vary in size, but they come equipped with free WiFi, flat screen TV, Samsung Galaxy tablets for free internet surfing and all natural Canadian bath products.

Who says you have to have palm trees to be on a beach? Well, it certainly is a plus, but there are many ways to enjoy summer fun on the water when you are on a lake and not on the ocean.
