Ah, summer time, and the living is easy! Well, if you’re on Cape Cod and staying at The Mansion at Ocean Edge that certainly appears to be true. The Cape is full of laid back activities that will remind Baby Boomers of vacations we took in our youth. Not many high rise hotels, water parks and fast food restaurants, just nature, family and fun.

This property has it all – lovely accommodations, beach nearby, tennis, golf, swimming, basketball, volleyball and a spa, which offers facials, body wraps and waxing. There are five swimming pools – one indoor and four outdoor pools. There is also a fitness center, free WiFi, coffee/tea makers in the rooms and free local calls. The golf is an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus course right on site.

The private beach is 1.9 miles away and is part of the Cape Cod National Seashore. Bike rentals are available. You can try the Cape Cod Bike and Rail, which is a 26 mile trail starting in Dennis, taking you all the way to the National Seashore.

This 336 room property was built in 1890 and opened as The Mansion at Ocean Edge Resort and Golf in 1986. Located in Brewster, it is only 13 miles northeast of Hyannis.

Speaking of Brewster, you will love this quaint town full of boutiques, antiques and art galleries. It is also home to JT’s, famous for having the largest ice cream cone on the Cape. You can also get great seafood and burgers there.

Be sure and visit the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History www.ccmnh.org

Here you will find an Aquarium and lots of exhibits. There are trails to hike and its fun for children and adults alike. Be aware that it closes at 3PM, so plan accordingly.

No visit to Brewster would be complete without a stop at the Brewster General Store – yup, just like in the old days – this store has a bit of everything, plus a player piano that will take your quarter and play a tune.

If you haven’t found enough to do at this point, may I suggest a visit to Emerald Hollow Farm www.emeraldhollowfarm.com

Here, you can take advantage of safe horseback riding on gentle, guided trails or take riding lessons, which are offered year round.

Back at the hotel, you can select accommodations from deluxe guestrooms to two and three bedroom villas. There are two restaurants and a Pub and many others in the area to sample.

If you’ve never visited the Cape or are a frequent guest to the area, plan to stay at The Mansion at Ocean Edge – it will take you back to happier times.
