At any rate, the official Launch of “Blackberry Pie Murder” was at Powell’s Cedar Creek Crossing in Beaverton, Oregon. This is a really cool bookstore and… can you say a really big bookstore? It is almost 3,500 square feet of pure delight: filled with half-a-MILLION books and Book accessories, and if that weren’t enough, many other strange and wonderful things that you never KNEW that you needed, but for which you have been desperately searching for YEARS.
Joanne’s Official B.P. M. launch went swimmingly, with the C.A.T. providing the humor, and Jo signing and talking with the over 100 Hannah-Maniacs in attendance who wanted the “real scoop” on the latest Lake Eden news.
Members of the “Fans O’ Hannah” fan club were “out in force”, including some who had won a contest for the chance of hosting a “Blackberry Pie Murder” party complete with special gifts and party favors from both Kensington Books and the Author!
However not all was Blackberry Pie and Fandom at the launch. In a strange and shocking turn of events, one of the Authors’ more vocal audience members (or was it the treacherous Boss of Blackberry Pie Security - who jealously stood guard over the treats- growling when anyone got too close to the food- stood up and accused Joanne Fluke of murder!
Could it be true? Did beloved Author Joanne Fluke really kill off her Ex- High School Sweetheart/Boyfriend for leaving her weeping at home; while he ran off to the Senior Prom with the bouncy Head-Cheerleader of the Swanville Swans Cheer Squad? Say it ain’t so, Jo. Why, the unmitigated villainy of the man defies description! I am sure that he only got his “just deserts”… right? Right??
Amazed, the crowd gasped aloud when the Author confessed that yes, indeed, she DID kill the low-down snake-in-the-grass known only as “Allen”. But be calm and have no fear, my dear Hannah Maniacs, because Joanne related how “Allen” was merely killed off as a character in one of the Hannah Swensen Mystery books. Whew… Close call!
A few hours later, when the event was over, the blackberry treat had all been eaten and Fans ‘O Hannah’s questions all had been answered, we all felt a little let down that the big event was over…That is… Until Jo reminded us that she had another 20 cities to go on the Blackberry Pie Murder tour!
