Now is the perfect time to experience the rugged natural beauty and vibrant and historical cities of Scotland.  You have a personal invitation to see all that’s great about the country in its Year of Homecoming 2014.

Throughout the year, the country is hosting a variety of events that highlight food, drink, arts, culture and ancestral heritage.

Stately Castles

Explore regal Edinburgh Castle, home of the Scottish Crown Jewels.

Travel to the Palace of Holyrood, the Queen’s official residence in Edinburgh and former home of Mary, Queen of Scots.

Visit the majestic Dunrobin Castle, which dates back to the 1300s.  Attend a fascinating falconry display in the formal gardens overlooking the North Sea.

Located on the banks of Loch Ness, see the striking ruins of Urquhart Castle.  While overlooking Britain’s most scenic bodies of water keep your eyes open - you never know when Nessie will appear!

Visit Armadale Castle and Gardens and the Museum of the Isles to learn about island life and the history of Skye.

The Home of Golf

Be one of many to watch The Ryder Cup at the magnificent Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire in late September.  This will be the first time in more than 40 years and only the second time in its history that Scotland will host the tournament.

Travel to St. Andrews, the beautiful town in the Kingdom of Fife that gave the world the game of golf.  See the Royal and Ancient Clubhouse and the famous Old Course where the original structure, built in 1854, still remains!

Historical Beauty

Travel to Inverness, “Capital of the Highlands,” where you will visit the Culloden Battlefield.  On this spot, in April 1746, a half-hour battle changed the course of history and the lives of the Highland people.

Voyage by ferry to the Orkney Islands, for many years it was a Viking stronghold off the coast of Scotland.  Visit Skara Brae where you will discover the remains of a Neolithic village built at the same time as the Great Pyramid in Egypt. Then pass the prehistoric Ring of Brodgar, reported to be older than Stonehenge!

Enjoy a beautiful ride along the “Road to the Isles” and over the Skye Bridge to the legendary Isle of Skye, also known in poetry and song as Eilean a' Cheò (The Misty Isle). Take in dramatic views of the Cuillin Hills, too.

Before cruising on the famed Loch Lomond, the largest lake in the United Kingdom, visit the charming town of Callander and tour one of Scotland’s renowned whiskey distilleries!  Taste and see for yourself why Highland malt whisky is considered the world’s finest.
