Quick – when I say beach and lake resort, what's the first place that comes to mind? If you said Iowa, frankly, I'd be shocked, but for this review, you would be correct!
I so love finding places for us (Boomers) that will take us back to a time that at least seemed to be less complicated and carefree. This is one of those gems that you can enjoy as a couple, with friends or take your grand kids. It has something for everyone and is probably “new” to many people that are not from this area. This is a resort that has been owned by the same family for three generations, so you can imagine the care and love that has gone into this property.
Not only are there lovely accommodations from which to choose, but they provide FREE activities to their guests. Are you ready – here's what's included: volleyball, basketball, arts and crafts, fitness classes, shuffleboard, tennis, water skiing with free lessons, heated indoor and outdoor pools, beer, wine, champagne and chocolate tastings, Million Dollar Home Cruise, History Cruise, a ride on their 28 foot racing sailboat, kids' playgrounds and much more.
They also accept well-behaved pets and can make arrangements for pet and baby sitters. I cannot imagine what more you could want – how about gorgeous West Lake Okoboji, Iowa's premier natural lake which was formed by glaciers and is 17 square miles and 132 feet deep. The variety of accommodations surrounding the lake range from Chalets to Cottages, to Apartments to Studios, to Penthouses, to Lakefront Chateaus and Cabanas that can house anywhere from 2 to 18 people. There are handicap accessible rooms with a variety of auxiliary aids and services and No Tipping is allowed.
In close proximity of the resort , in case you need more stimulation, is an Amusement Park with miniature golf, go karts, museums and boat excursions. Also in the area are seven golf courses, antique shops, restaurants, shopping malls and coffee houses. Did I mention fishing, parasailing and canoeing? You may need to stay for the summer just to take advantage of all the activities! However, rentals are available by the day, weekend or week. They are open from May 1 to September 14 in 2014 and I suggest you make your bookings soon if you are interested. As a note, no credit or debit cards are accepted – see, just like in the good old days!
