Well, here's one for the guys and for the ladies who love their cars. The V8 Hotel in Stuttgart, Germany is located in the old former Stuttgart airport building near Meilenwerk, where classic cars are available for viewing or purchasing – this was the airport hangar from the 1920's. There is not much in the immediate vicinity, but it is right by the Autobahn and 10 minutes from town. The bottom line is to come to this location by car and  there is ample free parking at the hotel.

Quick – when I say beach and lake resort, what's the first place that comes to mind? If you said Iowa, frankly, I'd be shocked, but for this review, you would be correct!

So here's a spot you probably haven't thought to explore in Paris – the area known as Bercy. This is actually a great place to spend a few nights especially if you are traveling with your grandchildren. The Pullman Paris Bercy is one of the most reasonably priced hotels while visiting the City of Lights. Granted, you are not in the heart of Paris, but a mere 15 minute Metro ride into the center. The hotel has a very modern feel with amenities the kids will like – it is child and pet friendly. The beds are very comfortable and the food and service is quite good. The bathrooms are equipped with amenities and are quite large – all of which is hard to find in the center of Paris.

Who doesn’t love a breath of fresh air? Well, I found just the spot for you on the Baltic Sea in Northeast Germany. This area, Graal-Muritz, has a climate proven to benefit the skin, heart and respiratory system – they have even won awards!

It's always a treat to find an unexpected property in an area that most people visit and stay in high rise hotels. Although many of those properties sit right on the beach and offer a lot of amenities, sometimes it's just plain nice to stay in a cozy, comfortable spot that feels more like home. The Channel Road Inn is just one of those places.

For many years, I took groups of people on charter flights to Freeport, Grand Bahama Island. Oh, those were the days - unfortunately, the charter flights stopped, economies took a hit, 2 hurricanes came through, and the number of tourists dropped. You have a choice of 3 types of views – the Marina, The Island and the Ocean – obviously, the price goes up for an ocean view, but it is so breathtaking, you may want to spend the extra cash.

Here's one for the train enthusiasts out there and I know a lot of Boomers who are in this category. This will be a nice place to share your passion for the rails with your grandchildren. Located just north of Duluth on the shores of Lake Superior, this 17 room rustic hotel's guest rooms are housed in real train boxcars. All rooms have TV and central air, the larger suites include a fireplace, mini-fridge and microwave. Rates include a continental breakfast which is served in the main building that looks like a Depot. This building is where you check in and also features a lending library of books and games.

Did you ever get your kicks on Route 66? If you’re a Baby Boomer, you are bound to have traveled this iconic road at some point in your life. Taking summer vacations with your family in the car somewhere between Chicago and Los Angeles – this road, which first opened in 1926, started what we soon began to know as the summer road trip. Route 66 was one of the original highways in our U.S. system.

There are surprises at every turn when it comes to travel and here's one I only recently stumbled upon. I don't even know where to begin because this property has so much to offer. Whether you are traveling alone, with the grand kids or with other family members, you are sure to find something that keeps you coming back.

What’s green, near music and loves your pets? The answer is – the Hutton Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. It’s a charming boutique hotel located about 15 minutes from the airport in the West End/Midtown Area. They have a car that can transport you to downtown and you are about 15 minutes away from Music Row. You are also a quick and cheap cab ride away from just about anywhere. The Hutton has been named Nashville’s greenest hotel and I know we as Boomers have become very conscious of this. They have dual flush commodes, a recycling program and bamboo furnishings and flooring.

O.K. all you Boomers – here's your chance to leave a mark on the world. This is not exactly about a hotel, but it is about staying somewhere in the world that can use your help. There is a wonderful organization called Global Volunteers based in Minnesota and Boomers played a significant role in developing partnerships worldwide for this organization in its early days.

They engage short-term volunteers for long-term projects “to create, nurture and sustain the well-being of the world's children.” Have I struck a chord?

Many of us love staying at the beach and many of us also love a good bargain. It’s usually quite hard to find a bargain at the beach, but thanks to our sharp eyes at the Boomer Travel Patrol, we found the best of both worlds! 

Baby its cold outside – what a perfect time to pack up the grand kids or just yourself and head to Michigan and the Bavarian Inn. If traveling to Germany with the family is not an option this year, then have no fear, this will satisfy the thirst until then. The Inn is a family run business from the ground up, so great care is taken to make you feel welcome, comfortable and well fed. Here's what the President, Judy Zehnder Keller had to say, “Family is everything to us. My mother Dorothy, at nearly age 91, is still very active in the kitchen, my brother Bill and I along with our spouses oversee the restaurant and lodge. Located about one hour by car from Milan's Malpensa Airport, sits one of the most majestic hotel properties I've had the privilege to stay. Villa d'Este sits on Lake Como as the Grande Dame of hotels. With its 16th century history and all the grandeur that evokes, this hotel is a must for your Bucket List. It has been host to royalty, aristocrats and stars of stage and screen. The hotel roster lists notables such as Mark Twain, Elizabeth Taylor, Greta Garbo, Alfred Hitchcok and Clark Gable to Madonna and Ralph Lauren.

Who says you have to have palm trees to be on a beach? Well, it certainly is a plus, but there are many ways to enjoy summer fun on the water when you are on a lake and not on the ocean.

How sweet it is! Welcome to the Hotel Hershey, a 1930's property that is a member of the Historic Hotels of America. I think most of us Boomers grew up on Hershey's chocolate – I know I'm still addicted! So why not celebrate your sweet tooth with a visit to a town built on chocolate that has a gorgeous hotel with charm, elegance and a variety of activities?

What do Doris Day, Betty Grable, Jack Benny, John Wayne and Spencer Tracy all have in common? They have all been guests at the El Rancho Hotel in Gallup, New Mexico. 

Sunday evening of June 9, 2023 we rolled into Niagara Falls, Ontario and made our way to our base station for the next two nights, the Niagara Falls Fallsview Best Western. The hotel had been recommended to us by a friend at the dog park in Louisville, who told us how dog friendly the hotel was. They didn’t overstate it. While writing this article, I saw a site that lists the top 12 pet friendly hotels in the world and the Fallsview Best Western was on the list.
