The fees are based on actual costs and include your lodging, food, supplies, 24 hour emergency phone access, orientation manuals, emergency medical and evacuation insurance, a trained leader and more. You can stay from 1 to 3 weeks, depending on your budget and time.

So here is your chance to perhaps travel to a destination you've been longing to see and share your talents and wisdom with those that can truly benefit from your experiences. Now that's a win-win situation!

The countries where you can volunteer cover 6 continents. There are the Cook Islands in the Pacific; Tanzania in Africa; China, India and Vietnam in Asia; Ecuador and Peru in South America; Greece, Italy, Poland, Portugal and Romania in Europe and Costa Rica, Mexico, USA, St. Lucia and Cuba in North America.

The essential services provided by Global Volunteers are Hunger, Health and IQ. The opportunities include teaching English, planting gardens and reaching out to at-risk kids among others. What a rewarding way to spend some of your free time. You can include other family members as a meaningful lesson to the younger generation. What a gift for the teen set of your grandchildren.

Global Volunteers is a 501C-3 organization, so if you cannot donate your time, consider donating to their cause. Boomers make up 30% of their volunteers and I think the number should be higher – come on Patrol, let's get out there and volunteer – we have so much to offer.

Let us know if you do and please share the experiences with us.
