I was lucky to meet this powerhouse in my studio in Soho in the mid 90's. I have been to her restaurants and love her southern food cuisine. I have a piece of her Home Collection in my kitchen that I use all the time. So, I would say I am a big fan of her empire and talent. B's husband, Dan Gasby is very involved in B's empire and has an amazing resume. They work together on shows, magazines and newsletters, radio, Home Collection and Restaurants, just to name a few of their projects.

Remember the beach during the 60’s & 70’s?Simple and  unhurried, colorful snack shacks, and a day of family fun. It’s all still here in Canada!

One of Susie’s many male admirers brought an interesting and unique product to our attention that she would like to share with her many friends – Bowser Beer. What a great idea! Of course this beer is non-alcoholic and does not contain any hops which are toxic to dogs. In other words, do not give your dog human beer; instead buy him/her a supply of Bowser Beer.  

I love to find unusual places to dine, that are complete fun and also very affordable. When I think about Tom+Chee, I think goody goody, skippy do da! Trew and Corey, two very humble guys, had so many great experiences leading them up to this dream becoming true. They started serving good ole grilled cheese from a tent in Cincinnati and then were able to open their first shop. These two guys are making a huge splash in the food industry and it sounds like they are becoming a grilled cheese empire! They blew out into a lot of national press and had success on the show I adore, Shark Tank!

Semsa Denizsel, the chef, owner took one of the very first farm-to-table approaches in Istanbul. She knew in her late teens she wanted to be a chef. Her background started when she studied at London School of Printing. She worked with magazines as a food stylist Semsa ran another restaurant before her dream came to life when she opened Kantin in Jan. 2,000. Semsa has had so much fun with her success. She has her own radio show and does a lot of consulting on the side.

It is a Thursday, around 12:30 and it is as busy as ever, a lot of the visitors are boomers! This fun spot is a weekly visit for me and my family. It is placed right in the middle of a neighborhood surrounded by charm, trees, top restaurants and shops nearby. Randall Selland and Nancy Zimmer operate all of the four top culinary delights above along with their children.

After our two night stay in Niagara Falls, Canada, it was finally time to head home.  The other adventures in the Niagara Falls area will appear later in the Guest Patrol, since they are not primarily related to pet travel. These will include the fireworks show on Sunday night, a visit to a large Buddhist temple and exploring the river down from the Falls, and the ride up to the Falls on the Maid of the Mist. Obviously Susie would not have enjoyed the fireworks display, nor would she appreciate the soaking we received near the Canadian Horseshoe Falls.  The pet friendliness of the Fallsview Hotel made it possible to make these short local side trips knowing that Susie was well cared for when I was gone whether for a meal or to see a site unsuited for pets. 

If you are interested in a combination of Revolutionary and Civil War history, and are passing through rural Virginia, then Tappahannock, on the Rappahannock River is one of your destinations.  Being central to so many stories of America’s past, any road you take getting there will deepen your understanding of the ancestors we owe gratitude to for our modern way of life.  Throughout its history, the Rappahannock River has nurtured all of America’s inhabitants from Native Americans to native wildlife.

Huzur Vadisi is a Yoga Retreat situated on the coast of Turkey referred to as the Turquoise coast. By definition, “a yurt is a portable tent dwelling structure traditionally used by nomads in the steppes of Central Asia.”

Here at Huzur Vadisi, the yurts come equipped with either twin or double beds, electricity, wooden floors and bedside lights for reading. The roof is open to the sky and referred to as the “eye of heaven” so as you fall asleep, you are gazing at the stars.

The Red Lion Inn has been taking care of travelers of all ages (a lot of boomers visit) for over 200 years! It is the oldest Inn in the United States and New England still running. This is a place you want to have the magical luxury of visiting at least one time in your life. I have visited at least 50 times!!!! It will take you back to a different time in history. As you sit in the rocking chairs on the long porch you will glance down the street and feel as though Norman Rockwell is sitting right next to you. He lived right down the street. This town is all about history and the inn is a charter member of Historic Hotels of America.

Occasionally there are risks worth taking. In early December we took a chance on some late-season camping in central Indiana. The forecast predicted light snow, but we didn't let that scare us off.
