Heading Home from Canada: Where are the sheep?

$0.00

Quick Overview

After our two night stay in Niagara Falls, Canada, it was finally time to head home.  The other adventures in the Niagara Falls area will appear later in the Guest Patrol, since they are not primarily related to pet travel. These will include the fireworks show on Sunday night, a visit to a large Buddhist temple and exploring the river down from the Falls, and the ride up to the Falls on the Maid of the Mist. Obviously Susie would not have enjoyed the fireworks display, nor would she appreciate the soaking we received near the Canadian Horseshoe Falls.  The pet friendliness of the Fallsview Hotel made it possible to make these short local side trips knowing that Susie was well cared for when I was gone whether for a meal or to see a site unsuited for pets.

On Tuesday morning, June 11, 2023 we crossed the Rainbow Bridge back into the United States.  Crossing here we encountered no lines or delays in going back through customs as can occur at some of the other entry points between the US and Canada in the area.

We headed back to Buffalo to retrace our original journey to the area since it was the quickest way back home to Louisville. In New York we stopped at a McDonalds to get a bite of breakfast and so I could eat in the vehicle with Susie, since as we began to head south again, the temperature was getting warmer.

We stopped for lunch near Ashland, Ohio at Grandpa’s Cheesebarn. This is an interesting place which I could not explore fully because Susie couldn’t go in. I managed to grab a Turkey Asiago Panini to go to eat in the car. A quick look at the unique items for sale in the building that housed the deli with the sandwiches indicated that a closer look on another trip was warranted. Lots of interesting goodies for sale and there was even a chocolate and fudge shop across the parking lot that we didn’t have time to check out.

Of course Susie carefully watched all of the fields on the way home asking the question, “Where are the sheep?”

We rolled back into the driveway early on Tuesday evening at about 7 pm after a successful first pet patrol trip – 3338 miles from the time we left a week and a half before. Happy Tails to You until we go forth again!
