This is a true family affair and I personally know the family and so adore them! The executive chef, Peter Kelly is truly one of the most respected chefs in the country. His restaurants are so close to Manhattan and are as any of the top ones there. I ate at Freelance so often when I lived in South Nyack. I got to know Peter and others in his family. Ned, his brother is the first person you see when you enter the restaurant and probably the last as you leave. He is so gracious as the man in the front of the house.

I want to thank John for bringing this winner to my attention. When you drive up, you would never imagine what you will experience when you get inside. Very simple on the outside, unique and beautiful on the inside.  You walk into several lovely dining rooms. You can also choose to enjoy the outdoor dining. This dining has panoramic views of the Indian River, which is so much fun and very romantic.

This is a fabulous place for true boomer foodies. I started to have pure fun the moment I arrived. There is only one problem, there is so much, you want to buy and taste it all. Whenever you travel to a large city, there are two main considerations when choosing a hotel – location and price. At least, that’s what I check out first – and the bigger the city, the more important those two items are! London is one of the most expensive cities in the world, so when you can find a decent price in a great location, count me in!

Angouleme and the towns and countryside around it along the Charente River provide much to do and see. My approach has always been to investigate things in depth rather than trying to see every site available. Also meeting and talking to the locals gives a better feel for the locale. Once again quality is better than quantity.

Semsa Denizsel, the chef, owner took one of the very first farm-to-table approaches in Istanbul. She knew in her late teens she wanted to be a chef. Her background started when she studied at London School of Printing. She worked with magazines as a food stylist Semsa ran another restaurant before her dream came to life when she opened Kantin in Jan. 2,000. Semsa has had so much fun with her success. She has her own radio show and does a lot of consulting on the side.
