Oasis of Dining Options Are Ready For Diabetic Individuals on Cruises

Quick Overview

We wanted to take the family on one final vacation, but weren’t sure where to go.  We decided to go on the Oasis of the Seas, one of the largest cruise ships in the world.  I was excited, but cautious about dining options.  As a Diabetic type 2 insulin dependent individual I was determined to keep my blood sugar in check while still having a great time, and enjoying everything.  A little pre cruise awareness was helpful, so I asked for a refrigerator in the room, a sharps container and activity options.  I also looked into the food choices carefully, both from healthy food availability, and cost.

Izumo**** $$

This was a great place for a “Date Night” dinner.  We started with drinks and dried edamame.  The food ranged from sushi to grilled chicken.  My husband and I both went safe, and ended up cooking our own meal on hot rocks. The atmosphere, view, and staff created a chic, intimate dinner.  .  The meal was very nice, healthy and enjoyable.  This was a great change from the buffet and main dining room.

Solarium  Bistro**** Free for Breakfast, Lunch and Snacks

The buffet had some good options.  It was often very crowded, so we found the Solarium, which is also located near the pool area.  The Solarium is an adults only, heart healthy area.  It is buffet style, with lots of fresh fruit, salad bar, and fish. The area had nicer eating tables, and felt away from the crowd.

Main Dining Room ***

We got dressed up, and went to the main dining room about 3 times during the cruise.  The second night is a formal night, so the meal options were higher end.  I found the dining room to be standard.  Appetizer, salad, entrée, and dessert are included.  If you are looking for a good grilled fish, this may be your best location.   The serving sizes were smaller than expected.  You can order lobster tail here for an extra expense.  The same lobster tail is available at the Sea Shack on the boardwalk for $10.00 less.

Park  Cafe***  Free Breakfast Lunch Dinner and Snacks

If you are into salads and sandwiches this is a great dining option.  They have salads, a famous roast beef sandwich, Panini’s, and desserts.  We ate lunch upon boarding here, as the buffet was way too long of a line.  It was also close to our rooms.  (Great Central Park area, with outdoor eating, and multiple other dining options.)

What was the verdict?  Well, I was not perfect, and I did indulge a little, but with so many activities, walking, and entertainment options I kept my blood sugar mainly in check, and had a great time.

YES YOU CAN GO ON A CRUISE WITH DIETARY LIMITATIONS!
