  2. Looking for the Sheep in Whitesville, Kentucky

    $0.00

As always one thing leads to another, and in this case watching a barbeque cooking show, the BBQ Crawl, on the Cooking Channel during the summer led us to a day trip to Whitesville, KY on September 22, 2013.  In the show Danielle Dimovski, aka Diva Q, travels around the country to showcase BBQ restaurants and competitions by the best BBQ cooks in the United States. In this instance one of the places she visited was the BBQ at the annual church picnic at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville, KY.

  5. Mango Street Inn: Ft. Myers Beach, Florida

    $0.00

It's always great fun to tell you about these hidden treasures that I find in various locations. This one happens to be in sunny Florida – Ft. Myers to be exact. I find the gulf side to be more serene and I am partial to white sand.

I am also partial to great hospitality and that's exactly what you'll find at the Mango Street Inn. Here you arrive as a guest, but leave as a friend and let's face it, as Boomers, these types of experiences sometimes mean more than fancy amenities.

  6. Moonrise Hotel: St. Louis, Missouri

    $0.00

When you pull up to the Moonrise Hotel, you have the feeling that you just arrived in Miami’s South Beach, well, except for the beach part. There’s an art deco/neon sign kind of vibe – very funky and cool and very George Jetson! This is such a find in St. Louis that it’s worth a trip to this city even if you have no reason to be there. Now, there’s plenty to see in St. Louis, so I’m sure you will want to visit anyway.

  8. Off to the Maine Coast

    $0.00

At dinner in the camp dining hall on Tuesday evening our new friends Tom and Carole Persia (Rascal’s humans) told us that based on the weather forecast that they were going to take a midweek break and go to Manchester, NH on Wednesday, June 5.  Wednesday appeared to be the nicest day for a side road trip since a front was moving in Thursday evening and Friday looked to be a dreary day. Thus Susie and I decided to head into New Hampshire ourselves, since we had never been there before.

  10. On the Road or at Home: Susie – Therapy Dog Extraordinaire

    $0.00

Of course I am slightly prejudiced, but I have never had a sweeter canine or feline companion as Susie Sweet Dog.  The moment we first met on a large horse farm in northern Georgia she came out to meet me and put her head in my lap and looked at me with those big brown eyes. It was over – she had finally found her permanent home at the age of 4 ½.

    $0.00

After a night of rest in Albany, NY, Susie was ready to roll to dog camp registration at the camp located at Marlboro College in Marlboro, VT. 15. Pet Travel Tips – Part One: The Basics

    $0.00

Before you travel with your pet the first thing to consider is whether the pet can or should travel. Every pet is an individual with specific preferences and characteristics. Not every pet is suited or ready for travel. You should know your pet well enough to know if they are comfortable riding in the car for more than just short trips to the veterinarian. Also your veterinarian is a good judge of your pet’s suitability for travel, especially if the vet has been seeing your pet for some length of time.

  16. Pets Soon to be on the Right Track

    $0.00

Susie and Beau are always glad to hear about new opportunities for pets in travel. It has come to our attention that a bill has recently passed the House of Representatives (HR 2066) that will require Amtrak to allow pets aboard trains. The billed is dubbed the Pets on Trains Act, which is part of a larger package called the Passenger Rail Reform and Investment Act.

  18. Pullman Paris Bercy

    $0.00

So here's a spot you probably haven't thought to explore in Paris – the area known as Bercy. This is actually a great place to spend a few nights especially if you are traveling with your grandchildren. The Pullman Paris Bercy is one of the most reasonably priced hotels while visiting the City of Lights. Granted, you are not in the heart of Paris, but a mere 15 minute Metro ride into the center. The hotel has a very modern feel with amenities the kids will like – it is child and pet friendly. The beds are very comfortable and the food and service is quite good. The bathrooms are equipped with amenities and are quite large – all of which is hard to find in the center of Paris.

Sweet Mochie, the dog in the photos, dreams everyday about the red velvet bones that Shake Shack has from Woof Delights. I know since he lives with me and barked at me so!!!

This fabulous place opened 2013 and is located in the Royal Opera House. The first location was in Madison Square in Manhattan. There is not anything that my friend Danny Meyer does in the food industry that is not brilliant including my favorite Union Square Cafe located in Union Square in Manhattan.

  22. Solvit Deluxe Telescoping Pet Ramp: Another Idea for Christmas for Your Dog

    $0.00

Susie is still spry and able to jump into the SUV, but she was still impressed with the Solvit Deluxe Telescoping Pet Ramp. Especially for large dogs with hip problems, or any dog with arthritis brought on by old age, the ramp is an excellent addition for making it easier to get your best friend into the car with minimum effort. One of Susie’s cousins is an elderly boxer that has to be lifted into the back on her daddy’s SUV. The Solvit pet ramp makes it easier both on the dog and their human to take them in the vehicle.

Susie has a medium harness which fits dogs in the 20 – 55 pound range and Beau has a small harness for dogs from 6 – 25 pounds. There are also two sizes for larger dogs – Large for dogs from 45 -  85 pounds and Extra Large for dogs  from 60 – 120 pounds. There is a sizing chart on the Solvit web site for measuring other dimensions to get the best fit for your pet.

  25. Solvit Tagalong™ Wicker Bicycle Basket

    $0.00

Susie has discovered another great product for pets. Unfortunately she is too big to use it and even Beau who is 10 pounds lighter is too big as well. The Solvit Tagalong™ Wicker Bicycle Basket is designed for small dogs up to 13 pounds. Besides major trips we also like to take our dogs with us on local excursions and this basket makes it possible to also take them with us on a bicycle. This would also work great if traveling by car or RV and also having a bicycle or bicycles along on the main trip for side excursions and exercise.
