On Sunday, June 9, 2013, Susie and I said our goodbyes to our new friends in St.Jean-sur-Richelieu and began our trek to our next overnight stop in Niagara Falls, Ontario. We only had limited time, but had a few hours in the morning to take a quick tour of Montreal.

The desk gave us excellent directions of exactly where to get off the expressway to see the best of Montreal, including a map. We also had been supplied by the good folks at AAA with maps of the Canadian provinces and had a street map of Montreal just in case. Also our trusty Garmin GPS was there to get us back on track if we got lost, so off we went.

We actually went a bit further than we wanted to going toward the east, but it was a fortunate misdirection because we got to see an interesting Montreal neighborhood and an old Catholic church in the middle of everything. The city has a European flavor, more so than anywhere that we have been in North America. New Orleans is probably the next with its Vieux Carre, French Quarter. In Montreal you felt like you have been transported across the Atlantic to France.

We explored the neighborhood a bit before heading back to downtown Montreal with its scenic buildings and streets. We went to the Vieux-Port, the Old Port area on the water, and wished that we had more time to explore. This gives us a good reason to return to this world class city on a future patrol. The Chez L’ Epicier restaurant that is reviewed in the Food Patrol is also in the Vieux-Port.

We said au revoir to Montreal and headed west toward Toronto and our final destination for the day in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Would you be so kind to tell me the name of this church?
I have a photo of a wedding taken about 1938 in front of this church and would love to know the name.
    Thank you!

Apparently this is no longer a functioning church/parish. It is a chapel. When Susie and I were there we couldn't find a big sign of the name of the church. I enlarged the photo and can make out a small circular sign near one of the doors that says "Chapelle de la..." I can not make out the rest. I have searched but have not found it yet... I'll continue to look...

        Don-
It is so kind of you to reply and take time searching!
I, too, have continued to look and have found this on Google Earth -
Eglise de la Nativite de la St. Vierge - 1855 Dezery corner of Ontario.
        Thank you so much!
