Looking for a luxurious country retreat in the English countryside? The Lower Fifehead Farm is a deluxe bed and breakfast that fills the bill. Located in the south of England in Dorset and close to the town of Sturminster Newton the property is just about 50 miles west of Southampton via A31.

The bed and breakfast is in a 17th century farm house in the quaint hamlet of Fifehead St Quinton. The farm is surrounded by 400 acres of rolling fields and is also close to the second highest point in Dorset, Bulbarrow Hill. The farm has been in one family, the Millers, for three generations and is mentioned in a guide book on “The Buildings of England,” because of its mullion windows with rope twist detailing.

Susie would like to visit to meet the family that lives there, since Jasper and Jessica Miller live there with their five year old daughter Lily along with three friendly dogs as well as cats, rabbits, horses, ponies and chickens. The dogs are Bandit, a Springer Spaniel; Frog, a black lab; and Gordon, who they describe as a mischievous Jack Russell. (Sounds like Gordon and Beau would hit it off.)  Jasper is an Arable farmer while Jessica runs the Bed & Breakfast.

The rooms are well-designed and comfortable with king-sized beds. There is an Inglenook fireplace in the Drawing Room which contributes to the at home in the country feeling as well as a marvelous oak library crammed with plenty of excellent reading material. There are also lots of board games and DVDs. Each room has a flat screen TV and an iPad docking station as well as free Wi-Fi. The bath rooms are well appointed with great bath and shower products, fluffy towels, slippers, robes and even fresh flowers.

The stay provides a choice of breakfast items which can be reviewed in detail on the B&B’s web site. Also Jessica provides excellent dinner selections at a nominal cost of £25 to £30. There is also a place to eat and relax in the garden if the weather permits.

The property is both child and dog friendly. Dogs are welcome at a cost of £10 per night.  The rooms are reasonably priced starting at £75 per night.

There are also nearby pubs and restaurants such as the Plumber Manor, The Wild Garlic, The Fox, The Antelope, The Bull, The Crown, The Brace of Pheasants and The New Inn.  Nearby are many attractions including Sherborne Abbey & Castles, Abbotsbury Swannery, Kingston Lacy House and gardens, and Poole Quay and Brownsea Island.

Activities can be also booked such as riding, fishing, biking, Badger watching and hand gliding.
