So here's a spot you probably haven't thought to explore in Paris – the area known as Bercy. This is actually a great place to spend a few nights especially if you are traveling with your grandchildren. The Pullman Paris Bercy is one of the most reasonably priced hotels while visiting the City of Lights. Granted, you are not in the heart of Paris, but a mere 15 minute Metro ride into the center. The hotel has a very modern feel with amenities the kids will like – it is child and pet friendly. The beds are very comfortable and the food and service is quite good. The bathrooms are equipped with amenities and are quite large – all of which is hard to find in the center of Paris.
If you've never been to the City, by all means, be sure to add several nights in the heart of the action, but start your visit here for a different experience. The Metro station is literally a 2 minute walk from the hotel and the kids will find it fun to hop on the subway. There is also a bus that will drop you off at Notre Dame.
When you've exhausted yourself at the Louvre, come back to Bercy and explore the Village right outside your hotel. Here you will find numerous restaurants, cinemas and shops on a cobblestone courtyard. Throughout the summer and fall, they offer free music festivals featuring everything from rock to pop to classical. This area was adapted from small wine warehouses from the 1800's – quite charming!
Also keeping the kids in mind, you will find Bercy Park nearby with a small playground and lakes. There are 3 parts to the park – a large meadow, a vegetable garden cultivated by Parisian school children and the belvedere where you will find the Philosopher's Garden which surrounds the lakes and its islands. The park entrance is free and and also adapted for the physically impaired.
Back at the hotel, you will have free Wi-Fi, satellite TV and a fitness center. All the rooms are non-smoking and there are 9 rooms that are handicap accessible and equipped with phone lights for the hearing impaired.
Keeping the grandkids in mind, as well as you, Notre Dame and the Louvre are about 3 miles away. The Eiffel Tower is less than 6 miles away and Disneyland is about 15 1/2 miles away. The playground for adults, the Galeries Lafayette, is a 15 minute metro ride.
All in all, with the reasonable rates and unique experiences, the Pullman Bercy should be added to your list of considerations when visiting Paris.
