Munich – City of Lifestyle

$0.00

Quick Overview

Munich is the largest city in the Bavarian state of Germany.  It ranks as the third largest city followed by Berlin and Hamburg.    Of all the cities in Germany, I find Munich to be the most “tour-friendly” since I can just walk or bicycle myself around town.  Street maps are an easy read though always on a first visit to any international destination, I enjoy taking the “hop on hop off” bus tour to get a true overview of the city and mark those destinations that I wish to return to explore further.

Munich is a safe and clean city and considered one of the best cities to live in all of Europe.  It is eco-friendly with clean air with a rich cultural heritage including a large Balkan, Muslim and Turkish influence,

Munich is famous for its Oktoberfest which actually begins late September and runs through early part of October.  I actually plan my trips to Munich after the Oktoberfest, for I can still visit the famous beer hall, Hofbräuhaus am Platzl, without the crunch of crowds!  They have the best gift shop in all of Munich and selection of wonderful steins and paraphernalia are available for every pocketbook. The beer gardens are still open and I enjoy hopping from one tent to another enjoying various wine and beer selections along with those yummy strudels!

Munich is one of the greenest cities in Europe and it houses one of the largest urban public parks in the world, the English Garden, being larger than the Central Park in NY and where you can find many jogging paths. Other mesmerizing green spaces where you can enjoy a much-deserved respite include the magnificent parks of Nymphenburg Palace, built in Baroque-style, a reminder of Bavarian royalties and the majestic and the oldest park, Hofgarten, located near Rezidenz, the largest city palace in Germany.

My favorite places to visit include:

Famous is the Bavarian State Opera which has 350 performances a year.

The Frauenkirche or “Cathedral of Our Dear Lady” which is the symbol of the city of Munich

Marienplatz – prominent public square and the center of social activity

Pinakothek – one of the world’s best art museums featuring great art work from the 14th through the 18th centuries

St. Peter’s Church – magnificent! A must see!

When traveling from the airport to the city you will pass the Allianz Arena which looks like a structure from outer space!  They do have tours for those of you who are avid Football fans!

Happy Travels!
