When I’m looking for a summer retreat for rest and relaxation, I head for the Wax Marina in Wax, Kentucky on Nolin Lake. The Wax Marina provides a beautiful view of a 100-foot limestone cliff and safe haven for boaters and fishermen. It is home sweet home for our pontoon boat “Buttercup”.
You can rent a 30-foot pontoon and take up to 12 people out for a cruise that can include fishing, eating, and swimming. Floating in a family armada on a hot summer day creates memories with the grandkids that last for a lifetime. The enclosed railings of the pontoon boat create a natural play pin and safe barrier for the tiniest member of the tribe.
The Nolin Lake Motel and Inside/Out Grill over looks the Wax Marina. It provides a stunning lake view along with the delicious the Hungry Fisherman and All-American breakfast. It is a great value and the pies are homemade and highly recommended. The Wax Army Corps of Engineer Campground is across the street and down the street on US88 is Days Pro Bass Store. It is an all around excellent camp store and a hunter and fisherman’s paradise.
You can find the Wax Marina on Nolin Lake 1 and ½ hours south of Louisville, Kentucky and 2 and ½ hours north of Nashville, Tennessee. It is one of the man-made Army Corps of Engineer flood control lakes. It is a special place. My family has been camping in the area for 25 years. We were first in tents, then in a small RV, and now on a small property with a dock on Nolin Lake near Dog Creek Army Corps of Engineer Campground. It offers a wonderful spring, summer, and Fall Lake experience and believe it or not the best fishing in the winter. The Wax Marina is a friendly, well-stocked store and grill run by Ronnie and Kim. They are a wealth of information about the area as well as anything about successful boating and fishing on Nolin Lake. You can gas-up, get a fishing license, live bait, lunch or snack.
Weekends at the Wax Marina bring fishing tournaments, music, and other special events. A wide variety of boat rentals are available. Houseboat, pontoon, runabout, and Jet Ski slips are available for lease.

Directions from Louisville take I-65 South to Exit 76 at Upton to Nolin Lake. Turn right onto 31W into Upton Turn Left on 224 go 9 Miles to 479 turn left toward Nolin Lake 8 miles to 88 Turn left 1 mile to Wax Marina.
