Situated about 2 hours by car from Los Angeles is the fun-filled desert town of Palm Springs, the former playground of the Rat Pack, Elvis Presley and currently, the majority of stars in Hollywood. Talk about a great place to spend a week, or if you are visiting L.A., a long weekend away from the City.

This town has it all – great restaurants, a lively night life, fantastic shopping, fabulous tours and some of the hippest hotels in the world.

If you like deserts, you’ll fall in love with PALM SPRINGS!  It’s like a giant mirage built in the desert, in the suffocating heat, with a/c spritzers cooling you as you walk the action packed streets.

We all remember the FIRST TIME! Yes, that first time, but all the other wonderful ones that fill our lives with joy and happiness. I was living in San Francisco, a fine place to live, and like so many places I have lived; it’s in the center of so many other things. It’s a hub, to the north and the wine country, to the south LA, Palm Springs, the heat and Hollywood. And, just a short ride away into the mountains for skiing.  And there I fell in love – with skiing and Squaw Valley.

Whenever a trip is being planned, there are usually many “wishes” to be fulfilled. One thing for sure is the desire to taste the most fantastic food in the most luxurious settings. Of course, there is fabulous street food, but we’re all about making reservations, dressing up, and enjoying a dining experience for a true foodie!

We’ll journey to many great restaurants in these travels, but let’s start with a couple of my favorites, in my ultimately most favorite place – the French Riviera.  And, we’ll start at the top of a mountain. COLUMBE D’OR in St. Paul de Vence is arguably one of the most famous restaurants in the world. It has appeared in numerous movies, and attracts Royalty, Presidents, Movie stars, and the global uber-rich out for an amazing experience. 

If you travel west, take the Highway that’s the best… So go the lyrics of one of the most famous songs of bygone days. Well, that Highway, Route 66 really isn’t one of the most beautiful in the world. HIGHWAY 101, between San Francisco in the north, to Los Angeles in the south, is truly one of the world’s most scenic routes.

December is also the time of year for movie lovers. The Havana Film Festival, or more properly, the International Festival of the New Latin American Cinema starts in the first week of December. This year it will be the 37^th edition of the Festival, from December 3^rd to the 13^th.

Susie was pleased to hear that other therapy dogs are serving as comfort dogs at many airports in the United States. The thousands of years of relationship between dog and man have a plethora of benefits for both species. Dogs make a great addition to any situation in which mankind experiences stress and airports are definitely a place (especially nowadays) where stress is high.

Spring break at Disney World and Orlando theme parks ranks as one of the busiest time of year behind Christmas and New Year’s. If you’re taking the grandkids to the Orlando parks this March, it pays to plan ahead. Fortunately, there’s lots you can do to avoid lines, monitor crowds and maximize your fun. 

Filled with an old Hollywood glamour, Acapulco, the number one beach destination chosen by Mexicans, still has its spark. You might think about Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, the Clintons and even the Kardashians when you hear about Acapulco, but don’t let that take away the fact that this destination is still a hot-spot ideal for vacationing. 

Hey Boomers! Did you ever find your lost shaker of salt? If not, I think I found it on the Hollywood Beach Boardwalk at the Margaritaville Beach Resort. That's right Parrotheads, Jimmy Buffet's hotel opened in November, 2015, so if you haven't made your way to the tropical paradise yet, I suggest you pack your beach ball and get moving. It's only fifteen minutes from Fort Lauderdale airport, which usually has great deals from a variety of cities.

Having stayed in Santa Monica, downtown Los Angeles, the heart of Beverly Hills and Hollywood, I keep finding myself drawn back to the Beverly Hills Plaza Hotel. This property is located between Westwood and Century City and is about a 5 minute drive into Beverly Hills. The area is residential, so you actually feel like you live here. Also, because it is residential, you can find free parking on the street after business hours and can avoid paying for valet parking, which is available if you choose. Let's face it, you will probably be out exploring all day anyway.

Your head starts singing on such mentions, and the first time you see Rome, you know you'll be back. Yes, of course, go to the Fontana di Trevi, and throw your coins in the fountain to guarantee your return. So many old traditions and customs, Rome is an amazing mix of the truly ancient mixed in with 21^st Century kids, technology, architecture - and it all works somehow.

This is one of those family treasures you find as you travel the world. I grew up in California and never knew what a hogie was until I moved to New York. I never really had any interest in them until I tried this place. Guess what - I am now craving them!

Here's my question – do you think you can stay in a boutique hotel in mid-town Atlanta for under $200? The answer is a resounding YES! Now is it going to be 5 star – no, but how about 3 star in the best possible way? Check yourself into the Artmore Hotel built in 1924, sitting among the high rise buildings across from a MARTA station. Their address is 1302 W. Peachtree St., so you are close to the High Museum of Art, lots of great bars and restaurants and in the center of Atlanta's Cultural Arts District.
