Hey Boomers! Did you ever find your lost shaker of salt? If not, I think I found it on the Hollywood Beach Boardwalk at the Margaritaville Beach Resort. That's right Parrotheads, Jimmy Buffet's hotel opened in November, 2015, so if you haven't made your way to the tropical paradise yet, I suggest you pack your beach ball and get moving. It's only fifteen minutes from Fort Lauderdale airport, which usually has great deals from a variety of cities.
This resort is seventeen stories and has 349 rooms. All the rooms have balconies, free WiFi, iPod docks, fridge, coffee makers and free bottled water. There are three outdoor pools, a full service spa, JWB Steakhouse, beach bar and grill plus you are a few short steps to the actual beach. Included in your stay are 2 beach chairs and an umbrella to put your toes in the sand.
If you haven't been to Hollywood, you need to put it on your list. It's a got a really great boardwalk two and a half miles in length. I have such fond memories of the area because I traveled here every summer as a child with my parents. To see it revived and alive is a great joy. The Bandshell has some terrific musical acts and you'll see a bit of everything as you stroll past the shops, restaurants and ice cream stands passing joggers and bicyclists along the way.
Back at the hotel, you'll be amused by the Margarita Glass chandelier and the giant blue flip flop in the lobby. There are Jimmy Buffet references throughout the hotel and bar areas. Seven days a week you are treated to free live music and a really chill beach vibe.
Did you ever want to try surfing? Well, now's your chance because the resort has something called the Flow Rider which is a surf simulator. There's an extra charge and you'll probably fall a bunch of times, but it's better than finding a shark on your tail in the deep blue sea. Plus if you work your camera just right, no one will know that you're not really in the ocean – did I just say that out loud?
So, you get the picture – it's chill, it's fun, you grew up to the music and vibe, now go enjoy your cheeseburger in paradise!
