Susie wants to let everyone know about an amazing boutique hotel in Glen Ellen, California – the Olea Hotel, which only has twelve rooms, three of which are pet friendly.

Susie has discovered another great product for pets. Unfortunately she is too big to use it and even Beau who is 10 pounds lighter is too big as well. The Solvit Tagalong™ Wicker Bicycle Basket is designed for small dogs up to 13 pounds. Besides major trips we also like to take our dogs with us on local excursions and this basket makes it possible to also take them with us on a bicycle. This would also work great if traveling by car or RV and also having a bicycle or bicycles along on the main trip for side excursions and exercise. 

Susie and Beau are anxious to get out and about after the rigors of winter and being restricted to indoors or their own yard.  Everyone is planning to travel, whether locally or on out of town trips, as the weather improves and spring and summer rise on the horizon. Susie and Beau are always glad to hear about new opportunities for pets in travel. It has come to our attention that a bill has recently passed the House of Representatives (HR 2066) that will require Amtrak to allow pets aboard trains. The billed is dubbed the Pets on Trains Act, which is part of a larger package called the Passenger Rail Reform and Investment Act.

Susie and her daddy spend lots of time finding information of how to travel with your pets, where you can go with your best friend to enjoy a comfortable stay, where you can eat and be welcome with your dog, as well as cool products to enhance your pet travel experience.

The DOT (Department of Transportation) has issued new rules that took effect on January 1, 2023 that expand and improve rules relating to pets on airline flights. Airline passengers will be able to check all airlines’ animal safety records.

Many people have misconceptions on socializing their pet. Recently Susie and Beau were at one of our local dog parks and a commotion developed between two dogs. My policy is if it looks like it may get out of hand or even if there are too many dogs in the park – we leave, which we did in this situation.

Heading to the west coast and looking for a touch of Mediterranean luxury – the Fairmont Grand Del Mar in San Diego is the place to go if you have a decent budget for your stay. Rooms start at $495 per night and in addition Villa style suites are available.

The Oxford Hotel in Bend, Oregon is a boutique hotel that focuses on making your stay a memorable experience. Bend is located 128 miles east of Eugene in the central part of the state, right in the middle of Oregon mountain country and near to Mt. Bachelor. The hotel offers amenities not found in the other hotels in the area. The Oxford is located in the middle of the downtown historic district of Bend.

 Susie is a safety conscious girl and she was delighted to discover that Solvit had a safety harness for dogs. The harness connects to the seat belt in the rear seat of our SUV and protects the dogs in case of an accident or sudden stop. Susie has a medium harness which fits dogs in the 20 – 55 pound range and Beau has a small harness for dogs from 6 – 25 pounds. There are also two sizes for larger dogs – Large for dogs from 45 -  85 pounds and Extra Large for dogs  from 60 – 120 pounds. There is a sizing chart on the Solvit web site for measuring other dimensions to get the best fit for your pet.

Susie has found another great place to stay in the United Kingdom in another area of the beautiful British countryside.  The Traddock is located in Settle in Yorksire around 40 miles almost due north from Manchester. The Traddock has a country house charm giving the traveler a wonderful base to explore the Dales and other sites of northern England.

Start your engines and head to Indy! That’s Indianapolis for those who aren’t from the area. This is a city that has blossomed and grown to become a center for sports, shopping and entertainment and deserves a visit. While making the trek, check out one of the new kids on the block for hotels, The Alexander - I highly recommend it. This is a boutique style hotel with modern décor and millions of dollars of artwork displayed throughout the facility curated by the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

Susie was pleased to find an inn in the United Kingdom that really speaks to dogs and their human companions. On the web site of the Joiner’s Arms one of the main menu items is “Man’s Best Friend.”

Susie and Beau are ready to celebrate National Dog Day next Tuesday, August 26, 2014. Of course around them, every day is dog day, but they love having a day of recognition where the importance of dog adoption and placement is emphasized.

Susie and Beau will let you know that this has been a tough year for them and their daddy - Nothing like a major medical issue to stir up the pot.  But we all want you to know what a great comfort it is to have a pet or pets as we grow older and begin to face a variety of medical challenges. Little did daddy know that he was training me to also be a therapy dog for him (and mamma) and Beau has learned much along the way even though he is only 9 months old.

With the chill hitting the air and the thoughts of last year’s cold winter, Susie is directing her thoughts to a trip to south Florida for warmth, sun and sand. One property that is in one of the lists of top pet-friendly locations is located just north of Miami in Lauderdale by the Sea and provides access to a good portion of south Florida and a stay on the Atlantic coast.

A handsome border collie in the UK told Susie about another great place in the countryside of Worchestershire where both humans and canines can unwind and relax their frazzled nerves from the hectic life of modern times. Take a step back in time by spending some slow time in Long Cover Cottage in rural England.
