Susie was pleased to find an inn in the United Kingdom that really speaks to dogs and their human companions. On the web site of the Joiner’s Arms one of the main menu items is “Man’s Best Friend.”

This very pet friendly property is located half a mile from the coast of Northumberland on the east coast of the UK. Newton-by-the-Sea is 43 miles north of Newcastle and 87 miles south of Edinburgh, Scotland.

The inn was recently renovated and has five rooms available for rental. The rooms put the “luxe” in luxury. All of the rooms have antler chandeliers, low-slung French beds and double ended baths.  All the rooms are richly colored and decorated and have flat-screen TV’s and robes in fabulous bathrooms. Some of the rooms have Juliet balconies, and others feature exposed brickwork.

For dogs the owners state that: “Our four-legged friends are a very big deal at The Joiners Arms, where our breathtaking coast and country is heaven on earth for any creature with fur, four legs and a wet nose.”

Dogs are provided with beds of their own and toys to chew on. Dog biscuits are always kept behind the bar.  A charge of £20 applies per dog for your stay.

Downstairs there are stripped floors, small tables in bay windows, a bar serving local ales and cakes on the counter.

The inn pub serves lunch from 12:00 pm to 4:30 pm and dinner from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm seven days a week.  The menu is reasonable priced with plenty to select from. Besides the lunch and dinner menus, there is also a children’s menu as well as a menu for afternoon tea – one of the great pleasures of a holiday in Britain. The menus can be seen on the inn’s web site.

There are plenty of places to visit nearby. Alnwick Castle is only ten miles away. Holy Island is also close by. You are also within reasonable distance of many historic and scenic sites including Hadrian ’s Wall. The scenic coast and rolling hills are also inviting to the eye.
