You’ve seen the bumper stickers. You’ve seen the billboards. Now it’s time to see Wall Drug in person!
I love a good drug store, and Wall Drug is way beyond anything I’ve encountered! Seems funny to be recommending a pharmacy, but this is a true destination stop whether you’re in an RV or not.
This self-famous attraction started out as a simple pharmacy in 1931 and the owners quickly learned the value of billboard promotion - not unlike See Rock City. We’d been seeing their signs since Yellowstone, so of course we had to look around.
Wall Drug is located in Wall, SD and you’ll find it easily given the profusion of billboards in all directions. It’s a vast shopping emporium which takes up most of this quaint little town, stretching across a couple of city blocks. Convenient RV parking is provided within an easy walk of the main entrance.
Your first impression upon entering is likely to be “Wow!” Wall Drug offers room after room of merchandise, from clothes and souvenirs to jewelry and jackalopes. There’s fun family activities, artifacts and fine art, and a swell café that serves buffalo burgers, homemade donuts, and 5 cent coffee.
Admission is free, and you can easily spend several hours wandering among the varied merchandise and displays. Every turn of a corner is another surprising find.
So follow the signs to Wall Drug, and plan to spend some delightful hours in this truly unique store!
