Touring with my Mom Part 2

(Notes from the “Blackberry Pie Murder” – on the North American Book Tour with New York Times Bestselling Cozy Mystery Author- Joanne Fluke (AKA my Mom)
Blog #2 : The Pre Launch Party
(Yes, I know… I know, this should have been the first blog I wrote for BoomerTravelPatrol.com; but hey… nobody said I was the writer in the family)
Anyway, here we go!
Held at the beautiful “Grand Ballroom” at the Canoga Park Elks Lodge # 2190 in Canoga Park Ca, this preview party was just way too much fun. A very homey and friendly small-town feel meet and great, the party was the perfect kick-off for the “Blackberry Pie Murder”- the #17 in the Hannah Swensen Mystery Series- for Hannah Swensen, (Joanne Fluke’s cookie-baking, coffee-shop-owning, murder-solving title character) and all of her “Hannah-Maniacs” and “Fans O’ Hannah” from all over the country.
Beautifully decorated by Kathy Allen and Judy McDonald (JQ) and superbly catered by Hannah’s friend (and owner of A Seasonal Table catering), JoAnn Hecht; many recipes and tasty tidbits such as “Butterscotch Brickle Bars”, “Cream Cheese and Herb Scones”, “Chocolate Hazelnut Cookies” and (of course) min-versions of the title recipe from “Blackberry Pie Murder” were consumed with gusto and soon the Elks Lodge rang with loud cries of “Bravo” and “Author” !
With faces smeary with the mini Blackberry Pies and fingers richly stained brown with chocolate and hazelnut cookies (my kind of party!), Hannah fans eagerly awaited with baited (or is that buttered) breath for Joanne to come around to talk. They were soon rewarded by Mom doing her first-ever “table-hop” to sign books, chat a while, and take a couple of photos with fans and friends alike (BTW, for my friends whom are not in the know… the “table-hop” to which I refer to is not an obscure new teen dance or performed in a “Gentlemen’s” Club, but rather moving from table to table, like a butterfly flitting from flower to flower)
Now, about those photos…
I really could not say whose cameras and/or cell phone flashed more for pictures with the author. Was it JQ’s ( a long-time “Hannah-Maniac” and Mom’s helper with emails and requests) or was it the roomful of people (some of them from as far away as Arizona) who came to talk to Joanne Fluke, have their copy of “Blackberry Pie Murder” personalized, and maybe grab a snapshot or four. Hmm, a mystery… here are some shots from the party anyway…
Talk to you soon,
John
