Quick Overview

Venezuela’s urban spirit can be discovered mainly from understanding Caracas, its capital city. Being the largest city in Venezuela, Caracas is known for being one of the most cosmopolitan and modern cities in South America. Nowhere else in the country will you find such an array of cultural activity, world-class museums or eclectic cuisine. Complementing these attractions is an agreeable sunny climate, often described as ‘eternal summer,’ and a natural exuberance that pleasantly contrasts with the urban fabric.

As soon as you pick up your luggage, take a cab and check-in at the prestigious Pestana Caracas Hotel. The Pestana Caracas is one of the best hotels in Caracas and its facilities have a very contemporary style. The hotel is located in a privileged area, the new financial center, near Parque del Este and close to the exclusive area of Los Palos Grandes, home to some of the most distinguished shops, restaurants, banks, and a few of the main business centers in the city of Caracas. A wide area of leisure and entertainment complements the excellent atmosphere in the hotel, which includes a panoramic infinity pool overlooking the dazzling Monte Avila and the most beautiful part of the Venezuelan capital. Luxury, safety and comfort, are definitely some of the elements you will find in the Pestana Caracas Hotel.

Feeling a little hungry? In the 18th floor of Pestana Caracas you can find Lounge Ávila, a place that has become a favorite rendezvous location for those who wish to enjoy the best international cocktails, accompanied by several local appetizers and "tapas", in an unique ambiance, and with a fantastic view of the city.

But why stay in the hotel for your meal, take a stroll around the city and discover the many wonders Caracas has to offer. Marisqueria La Castañuela, is located on a particularly busy corner of Las Mercedes. This seafood restaurant with a lively atmosphere enhanced by freely flowing scotch and lounge singers offers the best national and international food around. The waiters seem constantly in motion, toting enormous pans of paella or trays of tapas to large groups of revelers. So arrive with a big appetite because the dishes here are guaranteed to be big and delicious.

Ready for some drinks? Caracas’ nightlife offers clubbers, bar-hoppers and salsa aficionados the opportunity to mingle with the city’s famously die-hard partiers. 360° Roofbar, is an innovative open-air lounge atop the Altamira Suites. Its skyward view seems like a planetarium. If you’re in the mood to dance, Auyama Café is the place to be at. The rumba (party) never stops at this energetic, open-air lounge with a broad front terrace and various brightly lit salons. It’s for a slightly more mature set, who may want to engage in more animated conversation than sweat-soaked shamelessness on the dance floor, but it doesn’t stop the karaoke singing or salsa dancing. So remember to bring your singing voice and dancing shoes, por que es hora de rumbear! (because is time to party).

Apart from its delicious food and vigorous nightlife, during your visit don’t forget to enjoy some of the country’s history and culture. Caracas maintains a fairly extensive network of national museums that address various aspects of the arts, as well as the country’s rich and colorful heritage. The Museo de Arte Contemporaneo (Contemporary Art Museum) and the Casa Natal Museo Bolivar (Bolivar birthplace Museum) are two of Caracas must-see museums.

The Museo de Arte Contemporaneo is considered one of South America’s finest museums of modern art. It started small, with a limited collection showcasing the work of such contemporary artists as Valerio Adami, Pavlos, Michelangelo Pistoletto and Richard Smith, as well as Marisol Escobar and Jesus Soto, both of whom have Venezuelan roots. Over the years the collection has grown and now includes a handful of works by Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque and Larry Rivers.

The Casa Natal Museo Bolivar is a matter of great national pride that Venezuela was the birthplace of Simón Bolívar, the man who helped several South American countries to break free from the control of Spain. This museum and reconstruction of the house in which he was born salute Bolívar’s unparalleled contributions to the history of Venezuela and all of South America. The museum contains memorabilia from throughout the life of “El Libertador”, and also features paintings that chronicle his many accomplishments.

Venezuela is known all around the world for its beautiful women. Visit Caracas and discover the beautiful country that it is. With its rich history, friendly natives and delicious food, this will be the vacation you won’t want to come back from.
