Situated about 2 hours by car from Los Angeles is the fun-filled desert town of Palm Springs, the former playground of the Rat Pack, Elvis Presley and currently, the majority of stars in Hollywood. Talk about a great place to spend a week, or if you are visiting L.A., a long weekend away from the City.

This town has it all – great restaurants, a lively night life, fantastic shopping, fabulous tours and some of the hippest hotels in the world.

The one I will discuss is the Del Marcos Hotel. The best words to describe this property are “hip” and “groovy.” The moment I saw the Danish modern chairs, it took me back to my living room in the 60's – I loved those chairs and here they are today, well preserved and looking very modern in this environment. The place is filled with mid-century modern furnishings, complimented with all the luxuries of today.

This adults-only, 17 room property has a heated salt water pool and a cozy fire pit. All rooms have either a patio or balcony and lovely in-room amenities. There are coffeemakers and depending on your room choice, a refrigerator or kitchenette, flat screen TVs, free Wi-Fi and daily newspaper delivery. They offer free parking and the property is also pet friendly.

In addition, they serve a free continental breakfast, have board games and provide complimentary cruiser bikes so you can ride around town.

Speaking of the town – there is much to see and do in this desert oasis. To get a good understanding of your surroundings, I would recommend taking the Tramway. It's a 10 minute, 2 mile trip, is handicap accessible and you will love the view. There are 2 restaurants at the top as well as access to hiking and camping. Be sure and check it out.

Then, there are the tours, and you should do as many as you can, because they offer such a variety. Everything from architecture, culinary, horseback riding, hiking trails and Indian Canyons. They offer a tour of the Alexander Estate where Elvis began his honeymoon hideaway – admit it, you're a bit curious! One of the coolest and most unique tours I have come across is the Covered Wagon Tour complete with wildlife, ecology and geology lessons followed by a cowboy barbecue and toasting marshmallows over a campfire – so great, right?

Then, back at your hotel, you will find yourself only one block from downtown with lots of wonderful shopping, restaurants and night life. Every Thursday night there is a Street Fair and the restaurants offer a full range of dining selections from American to Continental cuisines, cafes, bakeries to fine dining.

The Del Marcos Hotel will make you feel like a Hollywood legend. At the end of your long day exploring Palm Springs, you will be happy to call the Del Marcos home.
