Day 1: Portland, Oregon - Staying at the Westin- Alder Street hotel is such a rough way to travel…

$0.00

Quick Overview

Being on the 19th (Penthouse) floor; the water seems hotter, the maid service faster and even the soap seems frothier than the norm. After traveling to the hotel in style via Media Escort, we were treated to express check- in and rapidly whisked up to our rooms, where the management had laid out a welcoming spread of cheese, crackers and Willamette Valley Pinot Gris for our favorite author-who also happens to be my mom- Joanne Fluke.

After preforming a little soap and water post-flight bath, I leisurely sauntered a few to blocks and found myself smack-dab in the middle of “Food Truck Central” on 10th and Alder streets. There, I caught up to my favorite client- who had been spotted by some of her “Hannah-Maniacs” or “Fans O’ Hannah” whilst sniffing / sampling about the various trucks. There was no doubt in my  mind that she was searching for an interesting take on some sort of recipe for her next book in the Hannah Swensen Mystery series , “Double Fudge Brownie Mystery”.

Sure as shooting- Joanne had found a couple of winners; one of which was a decadently rich and cheesy version of a Cauliflower and Sherry “ stoup” (a portmanteau of the words stew and soup) , and the second was a Bacon and Maple Popcorn concoction shaped into a ball for those chilly Minnesota evenings.

I found myself mesmerized by the Altengartz German Bratwurst food truck. Man, when you can get a truly flavorful Bratwurst- on a grilled potato “Brat” bun -with a garlic, wine and cheese sauce (Kaese)  All served up to you by the MAN ( Mr. George F. Wittkopp) ….. Stand back, things will get messy AND Fun!

Top- drawer Hotel. Impressive accommodations and "welcoming" spread. Joanne is my favorite author, and can't wait to bookmark the recipes that she found at Food Truck Central, in the next Hannah book. I'm drooling just reading the names for the "stoup" and the popcorn concoction. Can't wait till Double Fudge Brownie Murder is published. In the meantime, switching genre's, I've already bought Winter Chill and Video Kill, and have Dead Giveaway pre-ordered for the end of April. And John, wish I could have tasted the fabulous Brat's you found. I'm jealous. My best wishes to Joanne for the most successful tour ever.

    A faithful fan.
