Meranova Guest Inn Dunedin, Florida

$0.00

Quick Overview

So why am I telling you about a place in Florida that's not on the beach? Because it's really cool and is located in the “best walking town” in America according to “Walking Magazine.” Dunedin sounds like it should be in Scotland, but it is about 45 minutes from the Tampa Airport and believe me, you'll be pleasantly surprised at what this area has to offer.

Let's start with the Inn, a Victorian Saltbox built in 1907 with a white picket fence on a main street straight out of central casting. It has 8 suites (maximum 2 people per suite), a swimming pool, gazebo, gardens and the best breakfast in town! Frank and David are your hosts and Frank cooks up a breakfast that everyone rates 5 stars and is hearty enough for you to be able to skip lunch. Not only do they serve you breakfast, but you let them know when and where you want it – your room, the porch, in the gazebo, poolside – now, that's service.

Five blocks from the Inn is the 38 mile long Pinellas Trail that runs from Tarpon Springs to St. Petersburg. Here you are able to walk, jog, cycle or skate, so get in shape before you go.

The City of Dunedin is like going back in time when you were able to walk around the neighborhood and have everything at your fingertips. The charming area boasts antique malls, bowling, cinemas, coffee bars, a large selection of restaurants and a museum. But my favorite part of this entire area is driving to Caladesi Island State Park and taking the ferry to the island – it is so magnificent and a “must do.” The ferry takes about 20 minutes and you can only stay on the island for up to 4 hours. There are 3 miles of nature trails on the interior, 3 miles of kayak trails through the mangroves and 3 miles of unspoiled beach. I opted for just walking and laying on the beach, looking for shells and soaking up the rays. There are chairs and umbrellas for rent, but bring your own if you have them. I also recommend going there during the week when it is less crowded – you will feel like you are on your own private island.

Dunedin is the spring training home to the Toronto Blue Jays, so you're bound to run into some friendly Canadians. As if all this activity is not enough, you may find yourself at one of the many art shows, wine tastings, Celtic Festivals or Highland Games. What's not to like?

You can stay at the Inn by the night, week or month, so call David or Frank before they decide to retire and move to Alaska! They are a delight and so is this property – call now and visit often – I guarantee you will.
