Few have ever heard of this magnificent and magical city which has been a city/lake retreat for over two thousand years! Two thousand four hundred to be exact!

The children are grown and are now parents of their own children. Yes, grandparenting is a joy! But long distances, and complex work and study schedules, often hinder family get-togethers and staying in close contact. Unless we are lucky enough to see the grandchildren on a weekly basis, each reunion is almost like meeting them for the first time. 

This coming weekend, March 4^th and 5^th, with a kick-off evening networking event on Friday, March 6^th, New York City will be host to the 3^rd Annual Women's Travel Fest (sponsored by Expedia). The “festival” is a consumer event that helps women to explore the world and discover deeper meaning in their travels. It is the brain child of entrepreneurial travel writer, Kelly Lewis, Founder of Go-Girl Guides, a guidebook series for women!  Although Kelly herself is a millennial, the conference is for women travelers of all ages. I personally attended both last year in San Francisco and the inaugural year in New York, and over 350 women of ALL ages attended, and some grandmothers came with their granddaughters!

On a first visit to Athens, one will be surprised to find ancient relics intermixed with new construction of a cafe, hotel or boutique!  I was amazed to enjoy an early morning cappuccino alongside an ancient Roman statue! To build a city among ancient ruins reminds me of just one other city – Jerusalem.  I am amazed that city officials can keep tourists from pilferage these ancient ruins!

The ancient city of Jericho, or Tell es-Sultan, where you will learn about the perennial spring that supported this city for centuries and provided the much needed irrigation system for the land as well as to quench the thirst for travelers.

If you plan a trip to Israel, top on your list is a visit to the sacred city of Jerusalem, second should be a visit to Masada.  You can combine a visit to Masada along with the Dead Sea, but plan on a few hours to capture the spirit and understand what happened here, so many hundreds of years ago.  

Israel, a magnificent country and certainly should be at the top of your list of places to visit!

What often happens is that many spend only a night once they disembark from their flight, exhausted and anxious to get some rest before venturing out to explore and discover the secrets embedded in this ancient land.

Jerusalem is the sacred capital of Israel and one of several incredible biblical cities. Situated in the Judean Mountains, the city rests between the Mediterranean and Dead Sea. Jerusalem is divided into two cities, bringing together the best of both worlds. The new city is young and trendy while the old city thrives with history consisting of four diverse quarters: Armenian, Christian, Jewish and Muslim. It is one of the oldest cities in the world and holy to three major religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The beautiful architecture pays homage to ancient times, incorporating the very precious Jerusalem stone, a pale whitish-pink limestone. Buildings made with the Jerusalem stone are easily spotted and admired. 

A visit to the Dead Sea should be top of your list when visiting Jordan or Israel.  When I lived in Jerusalem, often I would take a day to recoup and plan a “spa” day at the Dead Sea.  I was truly amazed to witness almost miraculous healing for various diseases such as psoriasis and cystic fibrosis.

Jerusalem is perhaps my most favorite destination and I was blessed to have lived here with my family for a few years.  I will always remember how overwhelmed I was with the history and many historic sites and will share my own simple guide in visiting this historical city.

Eilat on the northern tip of the Red Sea, is home to luxury resorts and breathtaking panoramic views. Israelis will tell you, Eilat is the land of domestic vacationers and international tourist. So come relax, rejuvenate and indulge in the city’s remarkable resorts and spas and experience royalty in the Middle East. 

Israel is one of my most favorite destinations and I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to live in Jerusalem for a few years.  Israel was never on my list of countries to visit.  Isn’t that one of the greatest lessons we learn as we approach our golden years?  That sense of discovery of a new destination that never before captured our imagination?  To visit a land from where all of Civilization emerged?  A land so rich in history and culture, upon your first venture into its history, you are overwhelmed by its magnitude.  However the net has been cast - your spirit, your soul captured in its embrace, never to be the same again.  Come as I share with you my adventures into discovery of one’s own destiny and reflective purpose.
