Nature’s geo-thermal healing powers have attracted people to the hot springs for centuries.

In the middle of town is the Arlington Hotel and Spa. It was built in the 1920’s around the hot springs to compete with the beautiful Hotels and Spas in Europe. We stayed there for two days using it as a home base to explore the area around Hot Springs.

The Arlington is what I call an “old school” luxury. The rooms are outdated, but the Spa is worth the non-high-def TV. We stayed on the fourth floor two doors down from Al Capone’s Suite. When he came to town, he reserved the entire floor. We were imagining who might have stayed in our room.

The Thermal Bathhouse and Spa has a wide variety of treatments. We had something called “The Works”. It includes hydrotherapy in a mineral whirlpool bath for 20 minutes. Then comes the dry sauna for as long as you can stand. Then you get a hot towel wrapped around your shoulders and legs and a cold wrap around your head while lying still for 20 minutes. Finally comes the 20-minute massage that puts you into a state of bliss. This cost $62. What a deal!

Every door takes you to Hot Springs National Park. It is the smallest National Park in the system. The Arlington also has a wide array of Holiday Events and packages.

An easy walk from the hotel for something great to eat is Central Park Fusion Cuisine. It is upscale gourmet in a casual, romantic setting. It is one of the best meals I’ve had this year. Art Galleries abound. Hot Springs has a strong, vibrant arts community. Gallery Walk receptions are held the first Friday every month 5:00-9:00.
