Have you ever visited a new city, and not been sure what you want to see? It can be very overwhelming. On a recent trip to New York City my daughter and I decided to take the hop on hop off bus. Keep in mind that I have sight limitations, and my daughter (who is 19) is very ADHD. This was her first time in the Big Apple, so we choose to take the night time tour.
The bus is open air in the 2nd floor, where the tour guide is located. The first floor is wheelchair accessible. We went for the 2nd floor, and became friends with the guide. The bus took us all around the city, and even over the Brooklyn Bridge. It was fun to hear information and learn about the different neighborhoods including the diamond district, China Town, Little Italy, Central Park, and the Rockefeller Center. The trip took about an hour, and gave us a great feeling for the city. The tickets were about $35 per person, or $65 for 3 days. It is definitely cheaper than catching a cab, and Uber was somewhat not very dependable. We took the bus to the 9/11 site, and the garment district.
One of the great things about riding the bus is that you can experience the sights and sounds with your fellow travelers instead of worrying about directions and parking. Another advantage is the real scoop on the city. The guide gave us great tips on pizza deals, off Broadway shows, and shopping.
