I always stroll through ABC furniture, then Union Square Green Market (right dab in the center of Union Square) and try to time my last stop at Union Square Café around 2pm. I try every time I am in the city to make this afternoon treasure experience my first!
In 1985 the restaurant genius, who I have had the pleasure to meet, Danny Meyer opened Union Square Café. The moment it opened, success was immediate and has been ever since. He has been so lucky to partner on sister restaurants, Gramercy Tavern, Eleven Madison Park, Blue Smoke, Jazz Standard, The Modern, Café 2 & Terrace 5 at The Museum of Modern Art, Shake Shack. Maialino, and Untitiled at the Whitney.
The awards are constantly flowing in and is one of two restaurants to win all three of The James Beard Awards, outstanding service, outstanding wine service and outstanding restaurant.
This restaurant is simple, casual and a true place to “be seen”.
Huge, striking floral arrangements are at the front, simple tables with white tablecloths and murals throughout…….
I love to go right to the bar around my 2:00 tradition and order a cocktail; munch on their famous bar nuts, olives and yummy breads.
