I grew up in Chico (northern California). I loved it then and love it even more now since I go to visit often. It is a small college town with beautiful tree lined streets. The campus, Chico State is right in the center of town and so there are a lot of restaurants and shops there. The Esplanade is a long main street (as a teenager I used to cruise with friends down the Esplanade) and you go a little beyond town to see the Italian Cottage. There are two locations.

On the advice of well-traveled friends, we headed the motorhome to New Harmony, Indiana last fall. This special town is located in the south-western tip of Indiana along the Illinois border, and is well worth the trip.

On Saturday, June 1, the team left Erie to drive to Albany, NY to be close to the camp the night before our arrival in Vermont. Albany was a good stopping point because it put us within 70 miles of Marlboro for an easy drive to registration between 12:30 and 2:30 pm on Sunday.

Any time you are traveling in or around Nashville, TN, a visit to Andrew Jackson’s home, The Hermitage, is well worth it.  His home is a great window into Jackson’s tumultuous life and presidency.  The house tour is one of the best we’ve experienced.  Our tour guides were in period clothing and were excellent storytellers.  The house is filled with original family artifacts, giving a real idea of what day to day life was like for the wealthy in the 1830’s.  The French landscape wallpaper in the curved center atrium was hand painted in dark shades of blue indigo dating to the period.

This summer we crossed the Plains through Nebraska, following the famed pioneer trail along the Platte River. We traveled west from St. Louis, skirted around Kansas City, and passed through a small slice of Iowa, where sunflowers grow wild in the fence rows and the dirt is black as coffee grounds.

The Pet Patrol rolled into Erie around 6:00 pm on Friday, May 31 after the long drive from Louisville ready for a good night’s rest before proceeding on their journey to Camp Gone to the Dogs.  For those travelling to this hotel, be aware that the street address is misleading, so a typical GPS will not know that the actual hotels in this area are behind the shopping center on the main road which has the address. Statford-Upon-Avon is a must to visit should you be attending one of the many celebrations this summer in the UK!  As part of the summer Olympic celebrations and 60th Year Celebration for the Queen, the UK is hosting the biggest ever Cultural Olympiad that began on Shakespeare's birthday in April 2012 and will run through October 2012.  This World Shakespeare Festival will feature 70 theatrical productions from the Globe Theatre in London to the RSC in Stratford-upon-Avon.  Thirty-seven countries will perform thirty-six plays in thirty-seven languages over a six week period!  Julius Caesar, Much Ado About Nothing, Twelfth Night, Troilus and Cressida, King John, Richard III, Romeo and Juliet in Baghdad, The Tempest to mention but a few!  Such events and productions are planned not only in London and Stratford but in many other cities throughout the UK.

Few destinations are as charming and poetic as Salzburg, Austria.  This cherished city, protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site, has no end of enchanting qualities.  Flowing rivers, snow-capped Alps, baroque architecture, castles, cathedrals, and a preserved “Old Town” transport you back in time.  It is home to one of the world’s most beloved composers, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.  Every summer, the city hosts the Salzburg Music Festival, a renowned celebration of music and drama, to honor their favorite son.  The Von Trapp family, from the beloved film The Sound of Music, also calls this city home.  Throughout Salzburg, you will recognize churches, gardens, and castles featured in the picture.  You may even hear Julie Andrews’ voice echoing from the hills themselves.
