When I visit Glasgow I think of the beauty and charm of the locals, who always are friendly and will share with you their love for their hometown!  You must plan a walk down Buchanan street, which is filled with shops, pubs and yes, even those souvenir shops where you can fill your bag with those scrumptious Walker Short Breads to bring home as gifts!  All year this is a must see destination, especially during the Christmas Festival when the street lights up and the shops display their Christmas ware!

There are thirteen free museums in which to satisfy your artistic palette! The only nominal charge would be for special limited exhibits which cost 5 British Sterling approximately.

A visit to Kelvingrove should top your list, being the most popular tourist destination.  On display through February 2014, is Jack Vettriano – A Retrospective – the most comprehensive exhibit of his works from 1992 – 2013.  Vettriano is a Scottish painter and I often think of him as the “Rembrandt” of our modern era, as he focuses on capturing one’s emotion through light. The Hollywood movie, Blue Velvet, was his inspiration.

Some of my favorites on display include:  The Singing Butler, Mad Dogs and Dance Me to the End of Love. Vettriano certainly takes us back in time and stirs within each of us fond memories of our youth and a quality of life that many would envy today.

A special exhibit is also featured in Pollok Country Park, The Burrell Collection – Master of Impressionism through January 5, 2014. This temporary exhibition celebrates Sir William Burrell's magnificent collection of 19th Century French paintings and pastels.  It includes many of the most famous names of the Impressionist period- Degas, Boudin, Fantin-Latour, Manet, Rodin, Cezanne, Pissarro, Renoir, Sisley and Gauguin.  It also features a selection of works by the Post- Impressionists Le Sidaner, Simon and Vuillard.

The exhibition includes more than 40 of Burrell's most renowned works, displayed together for the first time and includes 20 works that have rarely or never been on public display before.

A visit to Stirling Castle and its monument to William Wallace (which I found to look like Mel Gibson - Brave Heart!) is not far from Glasgow. Relive history with this famous battle against the Royal invasion into this Scottish land!

For the sport enthusiasts, why not attend the upcoming XX Commonwealth Games which will be hosted in Glasgow from 23 July through 3 August 2014.  Plan now and end your venture with a trip to Edinburg to see the Tatoo Festival in August before heading home!    Happy Travels!
