This is a special year for anything Beatle. Hundreds of events all over the world are heralding the 50th Anniversary of their arrival in the U.S. and their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. If you need to celebrate your inner Beatle, Abbey Road on the River in Louisville, Kentucky is a must do for any fan. The 250 concerts from over 50 bands on 7 stages over 5 days will remind you and inspire you to remember all you need is love.
Carolynn and I have been regular attendees of this event for several years. It is our favorite. We love the music and the community the event has created. This year producer Gary Jacobs has outdone himself. In addition to the 50 bands from all over the world, this year features The Beach Boys, John Sebastian, Ambrosia, and Laurence Juber. In addition the Muhammad Ali Center is hosting concerts and has an exhibit entitled Give Peace a Chance. It features stories and photographs not widely seen of John and Yoko’s 1969 “Bed In”. You can also see the Louisville Premiere of Good Ol’ Freda. It is a documentary of the Beatles loyal secretary from the beginning to end telling her story for the first time in 50 years. You can win a one-year lease on a VW Beetle from sponsor Neil Huffman Automotive Group.
Memorial Weekend (May 22-26th) is the time and The Belvedere Festival Park is the place. The Galt House Hotel plays host. Get off the beaten path with the Beatles. It will renew, inspire, and reconnect you to the music of your life.
