My kind of town – Chicago! And my kind of hotel – the Talbott! I don't know about you, but I love big cities, however, when I go to my room, I want to take the “big” out of the city and feel more cozy. The beauty of staying at this property is that the location is close to the Magnificent Mile, nightlife and museums, but it sits a few blocks away on a quiet tree lined street which gives you the best of both worlds.
Don't worry, you can still stay connected to all things tech. There is a Mac Mini provided in each room and they have free WiFi, among other amenities. They do not have a fitness facility, but provide passes to a nearby Equinox, and if you walk everywhere, you won't even need to access a gym.
Another advantage to this boutique hotel is the size of their rooms – the standard room is about 360 square feet and I'm sure you have stayed in much smaller quarters when visiting large metropolitan areas. Have I mentioned the pillows? They need to sell them, because you will have the best night's sleep ever.
So what else do they offer – well, if you have a dog or even two that have a combined weight of 50 pounds, you can bring them along for up to 5 days at $50 per stay. Conveniently, there is a pet boutique right across the street and hotel guests get a 15% discount in the store. Nearby is Washington Park where your pet can frolic with other furry friends. We may have to send our Pet Patrol, Susie there to check it out.
As for the City of Chicago, there is so much to see and do, you'll have to stay for a long time or keep coming back for long weekends.
There are Museums, the Aquarium, the Planetarium, the Art Institute, the shopping, Navy Pier, fine restaurants, deep dish pizzas, Lake Michigan – stop the madness! Also, be sure to tune into “Windy City LIVE!” on their ABC station to learn about the events going on in the city.
Back at the hotel, you can sip cocktails in the bar and sit by the cozy fireplaces in the lobby. Valet parking is available, but can be pricey – look for areas to self-park and buy another drink instead!
