Meet Mark - Sports Patrol

Sports Patrol

A sports and travel writer from Worcestershire, England, Mark now lives near the Kent coast in Whitstable – a small seaside town famed for its quaint working fishing harbour and local delicacy, the Whitstable Native Oysters.

A qualified journalist with over 25 years experience, Mark worked for regional newspaper groups in Berkshire and Kent before turning freelance in 2008, when he started his own reporting agency, MBP Sports Media.

He has reported for The Times of London, Daily Telegraph, Daily Express, Independent, Guardian and Observer newspapers and covered cricket, golf, football, rugby and ice hockey for websites, magazines and the Press Association.

An annual contributor to the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack - the ‘bible’ of the sport – since 2005, Mark has also covered qualifying rounds for The Open Championship for the St Andrews-based R&A.

In 2009, Mark co-wrote the book Trophies & Tribulations – an anthology covering the highs and lows of the Kent County Cricket Club team over a forty-year period. He also sub-edits on The Times iPad edition, The Times business section website and for The Sun sports desk.

A keen golfer (he hits a mean drive but, by his own admission cannot putt) Mark has traveled the world reviewing golf and skiing destinations. Thus far, his visits have taken him to Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Trinidad, Tobago, The Azores, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and throughout Europe, including Finland and Lapland.
