Years ago a friend and I went to Las Vegas for a travel conference.  Being “Las Vegas Virgins” we wanted to experience EVERYTHING, but had a limited time.  We decided to take a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon to celebrate my friends 40th birthday.

We opted for a package which included a tour, picnic, and limo ride to the helicopter.  We left early in the morning as a stretch limo picked us up from the hotel.  It felt kind of strange riding a limo in blue jeans, but casual was the dress of the day.  At the helicopter port we learned about riding the helicopter, and meet a few more couples.  We then loaded up the helicopter, put on our headphones, and had lift off.

WOW!  The views were gorgeous as we left the city, and headed into rural area.  The headphones were great for the background music (think Top Gun) and captain’s tour notes were great.  We flew over the Hoover dam, lots of canyons, and some beautiful homes.  The guide explained the geological formations, and other points of interest.

Landing on a rock on the Grand Canyon was an awesome experience.  Instead of dealing with the crowds traffic, and gift shops we were alone as a group of 8.  It was very calm, and quiet and we could see for miles.  The picnic was fabulous, including a glass of wine.    I became aware of how small I was in the world while on the rock, and it was very peaceful.

So, why would this be a good option for people with special needs?  The personal attention, and detail is wonderful.  The walking can be very limited if necessary.  The views are spectacular.  You are also being guided by an expert throughout the experience.

Go ahead and stretch to the sky.  The possibilities are unlimited.  What is YOUR next adventure?
