Southern Charm: Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center - Nashville, TN

Quick Overview

If you like Vegas, but without the slot machines and you like Disneyland, without the rides, you’ll LOVE the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN. It truly is a playground, but not in the way of those other places I mentioned. This is the South and y’all must visit and see it for yourself.

If you like Vegas, but without the slot machines and you like Disneyland, without the rides, you’ll LOVE the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN. It truly is a playground, but not in the way of those other places I mentioned. This is the South and y’all must visit and see it for yourself.

This resort is massive. There are over 2,800 rooms with nine acres of indoor gardens and waterfalls. Once inside, there really is no reason to get back in your car and leave. Of course, there are those famous bars and the Grand Ole Opry to explore, but if I may suggest, visit those other sights from another location. This is a self-contained, unique experience that deserves your full attention while here.

There are a variety of rooms and suites, so your budget can dictate the location. The rooms have free WiFi, a mini-fridge and coffee and tea service. Just walking around the resort is a treat, and they have everything covered. There is a spa, a fitness center and jogging trails, but if you walk around the property, you probably won’t need to jog.

However, you might need to jog if you visit all the restaurants here. There is an Irish Pub, Jack Daniel’s for whiskey and Southern cuisine. The Library Lounge at the Old Hickory Steakhouse serves classic cocktails in a speakeasy style. In the Garden Conservatory Atrium, you’ll find the Wine Bar – and aren’t you glad you’re staying on property between the wine and Jack Daniel’s! Other restaurants are Italian, Mexican, Japanese and more.

I cannot say enough for the gardens and waterfalls. They have a Water Show and Botanical Gardens and all under one roof, literally. It’s beautiful any time of year, but of course, Christmas is the icing on the cake. I recommend you visit it now and make your reservations for the holidays before you leave.

The Gaylord Opryland Resort is located only 10 minutes from the airport. They offer a shuttle for a fee of $30 each way. If you drive, be prepared to pay a daily parking fee.

If you play Golf, they have that covered as well with a Scottish links-style par-72, 18 hole course.

You say, you’re a swimmer, well, fear not, there is both an indoor and outdoor pool. What, I didn’t mention shopping? The Atrium shops have everything from western wear to jewelry, clothing, souvenirs and much more.

As I mentioned, you do not need to leave the resort to have a great time. I have always enjoyed my visits here and think it’s well worth a trip to Nashville. All this comes at a price, but check the hotel’s website for special deals and promotions.

I think you’ll hear someone in the distance say, “Y’all come back now.” And you probably will.
