Want to go to the Caribbean and not worry about having a passport? Well, this is the place for you – St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Many of you who have taken Caribbean cruises have most likely made a stop here, so you know the beaches are amazing, the shopping is fantastic and the temperature stays around 85 degrees year round. But you can’t just make a stop here, you need to spend a bit of time. Admittedly, it is not a bargain destination, so save your pennies and make the splurge.
Located in the East End of the island and 10 miles from the airport, is a wonderful condominium/resort known as Secret Harbour Beach Resort. There are 48 condos ranging from studios to one, two and three bedroom units. They all have fully equipped kitchens, daily housekeeping, free WiFi, free parking, two restaurants, tennis courts, a fitness center and special needs friendly rooms. There is a freshwater swimming pool, but it is located 2 blocks away in a neighboring property. Not to worry, the beach is so spectacular, you will want to spend all your time there. All the units are beachfront and have either a patio or balcony, depending on the floor.
Water sports abound here, so this is a great time to try snorkeling, diving or paddle boarding if you’ve never attempted it. If you have, you will love doing those activities here.
Shoppers, do not despair, you are only 8 miles from shopping and where the cruise ships dock and are even closer to the shopping at Red Hook, which is only a mile away. That’s also where you can catch the ferry to St. John and believe me, it’s worth the trip. Rent a Jeep (they drive on the left) and explore this island. Go to the Virgin Islands National Park (small fee for entrance) and take in the breathtaking beach at Trunk Bay. I had my first snorkeling experience here – they have an underwater trail – bring your bathing suits and gear.
Back in St. Thomas, you will love the food at the two beachside restaurants on your property, the more casual Cruzan Beach Club or the fine dining Sunset Grille. Of course, you always have the option of cooking something up in your condo.
There is much to see and do in St. Thomas and I urge you to visit one of my favorite beaches anywhere and that is Magens Bay – it is only about 20 minutes from this resort and is truly a Kodak moment (old Boomer phrase).
You are also near Coral World Ocean Park for encounters with sea lions, turtles, sharks, stingrays and more. There is also a Butterfly Garden and other activities. Needless to say, you won’t be bored in St. Thomas.
So, get your family, spouse, friend or group together and head to St. Thomas and book a condo at the Secret Harbour Beach Resort. It won’t be a secret anymore!
