The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has a huge collection of the personal artifacts from almost all the Rock and Rollers you know and love. This includes the musical instruments, cars, vans, clothes, advertising, handwritten song lyrics, gold records, jewelry, and much, much more.

 

We were there on the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend and it was packed. There is a lot to see and do. There are many opportunities to watch and listen to original TV, film, and video of many of the artists. You can watch and listen to Elvis during his Las Vegas years talk with his crew behind the scenes. Many other stars are showcased in concerts and while on tour. The most bizarre item were the ashes of Alan Freed, the Cleveland Disc Jockey who coined the phrase “Rock and Roll”.

 

The exhibit of the Hall of Fame Inductees is a must see. It has highlights of weird, inspiring and raunchy acceptance speeches. Join in on the debate on who should be inducted. The Rolling Stones have a special exhibit on the top three floors. It chronicles their 50-year partnership and amazing longevity.  

 

Check out what special tours and programs are available the day of your visit. Hall of Fame Inductees are invited in for small audiences for discussion about their lives and often give live performances. Rock and Roll Night is where museum education staff offers free classes about the history of Rock and Roll.

 

In a separate State-of-the-art facility two miles away is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame library and archives. Any music fan can do research there. It is the most comprehensive repository of materials related to the history of Rock and Roll in the world. Their collection includes personal papers of performers, radio disc jockeys, journalists, critics, poster artist, collectors and Fan Clubs. They have thousands of sound and video recordings. They have the business records from executives, managers, labels, historic venues, recording studios, and concert tours. . Their mission is to broaden the awareness and understanding of Rock and Roll, its roots, and its impact on society.

 

Allow at least a half-day to look and listen. The Café offers a light lunch. It is expensive so plan accordingly. The price of admission is $22. and we paid $10. to park.
