Question: What is historic, pet-friendly, eco-friendly, accessible for special needs and located in downtown Chicago? Kudos to you if you said the Burnham Hotel.

The Burnham is a Kimpton Hotel and is located in the Reliance Building which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1895, it was considered at the time as one of Chicago’s first skyscrapers at 14 stories – they’ve come a long way since then!

It was lovingly restored maintaining the historic character of the property, but modernizing the rooms with comfortable beds and all the amenities.

Located at the corner of State Street and Washington Street in the heart of the Loop, you are 2 blocks away from the Magnificent Mile across the River, a few minutes from the Art Institute, Lyric Opera, the Observatory and the Chicago Theater District. Just east of the hotel is Millenium Park with a huge ice skating rink and year-round events.

I haven’t forgotten shopping! Across the street is Block 37, a five-story atrium complex of shopping, dining and entertainment venues.

Back at the hotel, you will find 122 guest rooms, making it a boutique property. I don’t know about you, but when I’m in a big city, I love to locate hotels that have charm and are not overwhelming in size. You will find that here, as well as an on-site 24-hour fitness center, in-room spa services such as yoga, pilates and core programs. Every evening around 5:00PM, there is a hosted Wine Hour – free to all guests. What a great way to unwind after a long day of sightseeing and shopping. It’s also a terrific way to meet some of the other guests and exchange stories.

Speaking of stories, when you make a reservation, ask for Room 809 – if walls could talk, this is the place! This room is where Al Capone and his girlfriends were treated by his doctor. It is known as the Capone Room.

I also mentioned that the Burnham is pet-friendly, so bring your furry companions if you can. They will be greeted with a welcome treat at check-in, pet beds, food and water bowls, as well as disposable kitty litter trays. So, cat lovers, you are also welcome!

There is also an art deco style restaurant on the property, the Atwood Restaurant, serving up classic American cuisine and craft cocktails.

All this along with a great staff, I know you wouldn’t be disappointed in making the Burnham Hotel your home while in Chicago.
