Arrival at Camp Gone to the Dogs

$0.00

Quick Overview

In Albany our new friends Sheri and Anne, who are already alumni of Camp Gone to the Dogs, told us about the camp and gave us an address to input into the GPS. The Garmin actually found it, but typical of most GPS’ it decided to route us by what it saw as the most direct route, which was in the back way through the woods.

As a result we saw some beautiful country that we would have missed going strictly by the main route along VT 9. Despite this there came a point when we had not yet reached the camp and the college when we questioned being lost in the woods. At this point we saw a young man approaching us on a bicycle. He stopped when we halted and rolled down the window. After being asked where Marlboro College was, he said just a couple of clicks up the road!

Soon we saw the signs of civilization and found our way to the main field with a large tent that was the rallying point for incoming campers. We made our way to the tent and checked in, were given our bag and camp materials such as map, schedule, information on instructors, room assignment and the like. They had tables set up with fruit, cheese, wine and drinks set up for the travel weary campers.  Susie was in her element and as usual was a very good and well behaved girl.

At 3:00 pm we had our orientation, but the planned physical tour of the camp facilities and college was cancelled because of the possibility of incoming storms. Instead we went to the campus auditorium just below the main field and were given a virtual tour by Trina.

With dinner at 5 pm we had time to check out our room and unpack some of our luggage for the week’s stay. Our room was in Marlboro North which was off the main campus on VT 9. We were on the second floor in the back, but had a private bath in our room. Susie and Lambchop made themselves right at home.

The first day was rather warm, but after the weather came through the weather was pleasantly cool for the remainder of the week.

We returned to the camp for dinner in the college dining hall and discovered that the food was as amazing as Sheri and Anne had told us. After some announcements we all retired to our rooms to prepare for a busy week and to plan out what activities to participate in. The variety was mind boggling, but we will save that for the next article on “Camp Fun & Facilities: Activities, Classes and Lectures.”
