When was the first time, or the last time you saw Paris? But all those wonderful songs go humming through your mind as you stroll on the Champs Elysee. Wherever you are in Paris, you're walking through History. Streets and Parks that were created for Kings, Palaces that are now Museums, art galleries that hold the finest examples of art from centuries ago to the latest art from the sidewalks of Paris.
Paris - The City of Light.
Paris - The City of Love...
They are inextricably bound together, and if you can enjoy both, then a stroll along the Seine at setting sun, and then the nightly magic of lights appearing, is an evening to be well remembered.
Paris is not somewhere you go once and she satisfies you. You know she is a romantic and glamorous woman who reveals her secrets and pleasures slowly. She must be savored many times to even enjoy some of the pleasure she will offer. Even just walking on a "gentle" evening in Paris will reveal perfection. You are surrounded by beauty and history, and you thank Heaven, that Paris was a "safe" city during World War II. It didn't suffer catastrophic damage to its ancient buildings, and slowly, over time it was rebuilt as a more modern city. It was President Charles de Gaulle who championed the cause of cleaning up the buildings of Paris, and returning them to original glory. It is a gift to all of us.
Once again, I confess, for a Luxury Patrol Watch, I return to my tried and true venerable hotels. I mean, you can have modern glass/window/facade hotels anywhere in the world. Why would you go to Paris and not choose to stay at The Bristol, The Ritz, The Lancaster, The Plaza Athenee, Georges V, The Meurice, The Crillon....? Their location is everything - in the center of Paris. Their fame and beauty are second to none, and the food and wine of their famed restaurants, what more could you ask for?
Each luxury hotel has magnificence to offer. Their locations are diverse, but close, and all walking distance to the major sights of Paris.
As famed global hotels, you'll see the most famous faces in lobbies, restaurants, bars and in the street. It's truly stepping back into the glory days of La Belle Époque. But no faded glory for these Grande Dames. They are constantly spruced up in multi-million rehabs. 21st century plumbing is guaranteed, and solicitous staff reminds you of old world charm.
Choosing a hotel is subjective, or based on money. But as luxury lovers of a very certain age, money allows us freedom to choose what WE want, and where. I'll always give you choices, and leave the final choice to you.
So, hotels are selected. Next time I'll offer up the best restaurants in a city and country known for its fabulous cuisine. In fact, France is where we got the name - add on Haute Cuisine, and you're in for a mouthwatering trip!
