The Jefferson in Washington, D.C. has a unique distinction in having a CEO – Canine Executive Officer, a beagle named Lord Monticello or “Monti” for short.  This well-behaved canine lives at the hotel and serves as a furry concierge for visitors and their pets.  Like Susie he is always open for a good belly rub which pleases both him and the guest who provides the rub.

Susie loves it that like her, Monti is also a rescue. He was found by a Good Samaritan who brought him to PAW Rescue, an adoption organization in Maryland.  You can read Monti’s full bio on the hotel website. He lives in the Managing Director’s office, Phillip A. Wood which interestingly enough also spells PAW. The hotel was looking for another way to be more part of the community and adopting a rescue dog was a good fit to create a good-will ambassador.

Besides being greeted by Monti upon arrival at the hotel, dogs and also cats can expect to find their own pet bed in their human’s room. The hotel also provides other amenities for pets including food and water receptacles, toys and high-grade treats. The hotel also provides maps of places to take your dog for a walk as well as a list of pet friendly places throughout the city.

Another good point is that the hotel does not have restrictions on the size of your pet and welcomes Great Danes as much as Chihuahuas. Also there is no additional pet charge for your stay, although if your pet does damage to the room you may be assessed for that. Also crates are not required when you leave your pet unattended in the room.

So if you want to stay in a luxurious hotel and enjoy the company of your best friend while there, the Jefferson is a great option when visiting the Capitol. Susie is looking forward to going sometime and meeting Monti in person.
