Mary's Boon Beach Resort: St. Maarten, DWI

$0.00

Quick Overview

I love to tell you about hidden little gems around the world and Mary's Boon is one of the pearls. Located in the Dutch West Indies in the town of St. Maarten, this is a family owned and operated establishment since 1970. And yes, the same family still owns and runs it today. There are 37 rooms that sit directly on the beach on Simpson Bay. Is it 5 minutes from the airport – yes. Can you almost feel the airplanes – yes. However, the airport is closed at night, so if you have enough cocktails during the day as you sit on the beach, you'll never know the difference! This beach is so pristine and private that you will gladly put up with the noise during the day. If that would be an issue, just be forewarned.

I first heard of this property in the 90's from a frequent visitor – like every year for many, many years and she always raved about it. When I finally got to visit the island, I had to go see for myself and she was right, the beach is amazing, you feel like a guest in someone's home and people keep coming back year after year.

There is a day spa, a restaurant and bar, and during the day, you can pour your own drinks since it's on the honor system.

There is free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, plasma TV's and rooms range from regular rooms to studios to apartments with kitchenettes. It's a bit kitschy, but who cares – you're on vacation!

I would suggest renting a car since you will want to explore the entire island. Mary's Boon is on the Dutch side which has shops, restaurants and casinos. If you love jewelry, hang on to your credit cards – they have lots of duty-free shiny things that will dazzle you as you walk by.

Then, there's the French side of the island, St. Martin, home to many beaches including one of the most famous, Orient Beach, where nude bathing is acceptable. Hey, I did say, you were on the French side.

This is where you will find fine French cuisine, more duty-free shops and lots of water sport activities. The year round water and air temperature is 77-84 degrees. You can go horseback riding on the beach, go deep sea fishing or charter a yacht and sail to nearby islands. Close by are Saba, Anguilla and St. Barth's.

Stay at Mary's Boon and become part of their family.

This is an island that offers two cultures – Dutch and French, so enjoy all that it has to offer and let me know if you ended up on Orient Beach!
