When I showed photos of this area to my friends, I had them try and guess the location. The answers ranged from Switzerland to Fiji to California – that's how incredibly beautiful this island is on the Adriatic. It is part of the Elaphiti Islands and only one hour away by boat from Dubrovnik.
The Hotel Sipan is my recommendation for this holiday of pure peace and relaxation. Rates can change so I won't quote a price here, but click on their website at the end of this article and check it out – you won't believe the cost of a week's stay with breakfast included. I say book a flight to Dubrovnik as fast as you can. The climate here is subtropical and Mediterranean, so the most comfortable temperatures are in the Spring and Fall.
The hotel has a restaurant and bar, free WiFi in the lobby, and air conditioning, which is very important, especially in the summer months. There are only showers in the bathrooms which also come equipped with hair dryers. The décor is simple and modern and each room has satellite TV.
Although the restaurant on the property has great food with a stunning view, be sure and venture out to try the other restaurants on the island. Everywhere you go, the seafood will be amazing. There are also nightclubs, shops, historic churches, stone houses, olive groves and vineyards – all with beautiful scenery.
There is a beach 5 minutes away by foot. The hotel can also arrange rentals for bicycles, canoes and kayaks and nearby is scuba diving with lessons if you're a first timer.
After you have explored, relaxed and hiked around the island, why not hop on the ferry back to Dubrovnik for a day of sightseeing. Visit the City Walls where you will be rewarded with magnificent sea views and red tile roofs after a steep climb. If climbing is not your thing, than take the Cable Car and take in the sights from above. There are museums, wonderful restaurants and cafes and lots of shopping for those all-important trinkets to bring home to family and friends. There are four boats per day between Sipan and Dubrovnik, so you might want to make more than one trip during your stay.
Back at the Hotel Sipan, you can relax with cocktails as you gaze out to the Adriatic and view the amazing red sunsets that you will remember for years to come. There are few places left on earth where the the sunsets are this red.
This area and hotel are a real find and I encourage you to put it on your list – you won't regret it.
