The “Violino d'Oro”, which translates to “The Golden Violin”, is that gem in Venice that you just wish someone would share with you. That's how I found out about it. Friends of mine who own a time share in Venice and travel there every year told me to be sure and check it out for my clients.
This is a 3 star hotel with 4 star charm and a location that is hard to beat, especially for the price. It is next to a Gondola station, steps away from San Marco Square and about 2 minutes from the Ponte di Rialto.
There is no restaurant here, but you do wake up in the morning to the aroma of fresh baked goods as they serve up a lovely breakfast each morning. If you give them advance notice, they will be able to offer gluten free items.
If you've visited Venice in the past, chances are you took a gondola ride for the sheer romance of it, but how many of you have actually learned how to be a Gondolier? This is a unique experience and great to share with your family back home. It takes about 2 hours and ends up costing what a 20 minute gondola ride would. You learn the rowing standing up not in a gondola, but a “batele”, which is easier to row. Come on, this has to be a bucket list item – check it out at www.rowvenice.com
Back at the hotel, you will find a friendly and accommodating staff who will be able to steer you to the sights, sounds and restaurants in Venice that will make your trip more memorable.
Be sure and request a corner room facing the canal if available – you will be able to hear the gondoliers singing as they pass by – it's a bit more in price, but definitely worth it.
The hotel offers specials by booking at least 7 days in advance with a 2 night minimum – be sure and keep that in mind.
Have a coffee or tea late in the afternoon and go out on the small terrace to share the day, read a book or just relax. Venice will keep you busy with its art, architecture and music. Sign up for a walking tour with a guide or go to Murano Island for glass blowing and shopping. Since you are minutes from San Marco Square, have a glass of wine and sit at one of the cafes as you watch all the people – there is much to savor here.
Transfers to the airport and rail stations are offered for a fee – shared rides take down the cost.
Visit Venice again and again and on your next time, book the Violino d'Oro, you'll be happy you did.
Salute!
