No, this is not a typo, the accommodation I bring to your attention is actually called, “A Room in Paris” because that's what you get and it's in a private residence! The city itself is charming, so why not stay in a place that makes you feel like Paris is your home.
Located in the 10th arrondissement near the Gare du Nord train station, the sights of the City are easily accessible and your host Peet will provide information on where to go and what to see. He also provides a lovely breakfast – 8:00 - 9:30 AM during the week and 9:00 – 10:00 AM on the weekend. If enough of the guests are interested, he will serve you dinner in their home. So, if you've been to Paris on several occasions, you will find this to be quite a treat.
There are a total of 5 rooms. Rooms one, two and three share two bathrooms with the hosts and rooms four and five each have a private bathroom, so bear that in mind if you plan a stay here. The home was built in the mid 1800's during the Haussman Era, a time of modernization for Paris. The furnishings are lovely and in the art nouveau style with antiques and marble fireplaces.
There are cafes, restaurants, a supermarket and bakeries in the area and with the help of Peet, you can walk to many attractions in a half hour. The idea of a B&B in Paris should be attractive to Boomers who have made several trips to the City Of Lights.
So, assuming you have made a few trips here, have you taken in the Sewers of Paris Museum? It's an hour long walking tour of a system that dates back to 1370. It may not be for everyone, but is quite interesting. There is also a Wine Museum (Le Musee du Vin) located in the 16th arrondissement near the Eiffel Tower in the cellars of a 15th century Abbey. You can take a wine tasting class and there is a restaurant that serves lunch.
Located next to the Place de la Concorde is the Musee de l'Orangerie – fewer lines than the Louvre and home to paintings by Monet, Cezanne, Matisse, Renoir and Picasso to name a few.
You've seen the view from the Eiffel Tower, but have you seen the Eiffel Tower from the best view in Paris? Head to the Montparnasse Tower, which is open every day of the year, is enclosed with a panoramic (360 degree) view of Paris from the 56th floor. This is a “must do.” For a free panoramic view, head to the terraces of the Galeries Lafayettes and Printemps department stores where you can also sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee.
