On Saturday, June 1, the team left Erie to drive to Albany, NY to be close to the camp the night before our arrival in Vermont. Albany was a good stopping point because it put us within 70 miles of Marlboro for an easy drive to registration between 12:30 and 2:30 pm on Sunday.

On the way we stopped at the Pembroke Rest stop along the I-90 expressway which in New York is a toll road. At the rest stop Susie and her daddy met a lady who had two Aussies at home – one who is also named Susie. The journey took the patrol through Buffalo and Syracuse before finally arriving at Albany, New York’s capital city.

We pulled in the Best Western Sovereign hotel late Saturday afternoon ready for another night’s rest before continuing on to the camp.  As usual Susie was warmly greeted at the front desk by the desk clerk, and we received our room key card, and headed to check out the room. We were assigned a first floor room on the back side of the hotel. In the process of unloading our luggage we met two other campers on their way to Camp Gone to the Dogs, Sheri and Anne with their dogs.

You can see that once again Susie made herself right at home. The room was adequate and the bed comfortable. The only downside was that the hotel had very limited green space which made walking Susie for her potty needs a bit difficult. Where we were located in the back, it was necessary to either go all the way to the front of the hotel or to the fringes of the large asphalt parking lot in back to grass along the fence line. The problem in the back was that dogs on the other side of the fence made it more difficult.

I suggested to the desk and one assistant manager that they consider removing a section of the asphalt and planting grass to create a dog friendly area – and told them about the fire hydrant and poopy bag stand at the hotel in Erie.

The 1228 Grill in the hotel served a decent evening meal that saved a drive out after a tiring drive. The breakfast was served in an attached breakfast room. The breakfast was a full breakfast including eggs and sausage and was very good.

Albany has plenty to see for those who are making this a destination. Upper New York has many historic and scenic attractions available. You can see information on what is available in the city at http://www.albanyny.org.
