You have to love a place that incorporates history and art as part of their environment and The Arts Hotel does exactly that. Located in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania, this member of the Historic Hotels of America is in the oldest inland city in the United States.

If you find yourself on a road trip, Lancaster is about 150 miles from New York City, 70 miles from Philly and about 75 miles from Baltimore, or you can fly to one of these main hubs, rent a car and explore the nearby Amish country as well.

This 63 room boutique hotel was once an old Tobacco Warehouse where you will find the original beams and hardwood flooring. It has a contemporary feel with the charm of the turn of the century. The art collection is extensive and pays homage to the local artists with nearly 300 pieces that are displayed in every room, suite and lobby – over $300,000 worth! Bring your wallet, because everything is for sale.

The beds are comfy and rooms come equipped with flat screen TVs, free Wifi, brick walls, handcrafted furniture and a wine refrigerator. Sketch pads and pencils are provided if you are inspired by your surroundings. Some rooms don't seem to block out all the noise, but ear plugs are provided if you are bothered. There is also free parking (always a plus) and you are given a guest pass to the nearby YMCA for your fitness fix. Continental breakfast is also included in your stay. When you return to your room at night, you will find a rose and chocolates to complete your evening.

Adjacent to the hotel is the John J. Jeffries Restaurant, the first organic fine dining restaurant in the area. You will be served local cheese as well as bison from the local buffalo farm. There are also several other dining options within walking distance.

You are near Amish country, so if you love antiques, you are definitely in luck. Head on over to Antiques Capital USA with over 5,000 dealers www.antiquescapital.com

There are also plenty of museums to explore, Strasburg R.R., America's oldest short line railroad and of course, Amish Village, Amish Buggy Rides and Amish Farm and House, Lancaster's first and all inclusive Amish Heritage Site.

A few other amenities provided by the hotel are complimentary bicycles for you to explore the area, including a basket to put in some groceries if you'd like to visit local markets. They will also take care of your taxi ride within a five mile radius and have made arrangements with some nearby restaurants to allow you to charge your tab to your room. Now, that's service!

So, get in a buggy, car or hop on a plane and check this place out – you'll be glad you did.
